Turn it around then and it'll be forward facing!Unfortunately that's where my rear camera sits!
Thanks for the info, very useful. I was aware of the situation in Austria but didn't realise that simply owning one was illegal.Turn it around then and it'll be forward facing!
Beltie Just for clarity on having a dash cam fitted permanently or not. Mine was a gift as I wanted to see some of the views, crossing the mountains between Germany and Croatia, that I couldn’t really see properly whilst driving.
Then on research I found there are many rules throughout Europe about their use, recording, uploading images etc. The worst was that in Austria it is an offence even to possess one let alone use it.
So mine, a Kenwood, was fitted to the screen by the adhesive pad at the top slightly hidden for me by the reversing camera monitor on the interior mirror, it meant I could not see the screen whilst driving to comply with the law but could reach the button to permanently record any incidents if I was on my own. I felt that was a good compromise and my wife could see it all when with me. I had to remove the camera to close the blinds.
I didn’t hard wire it as before entering Austria I removed it and then used to hide it in the garage in case I was stopped by the very keen Austrian police. At least I could show I could not have possibly used it even though I possessed it. I put it back on when I cross the border.
Good camera, quite small & easy to use, really good HD images, better than my Nextbase fitted in the car.
Before then I always wondered why Google street view was not available in Austria, very strict privacy rules. It’s only here in the UK you see lots of them in vehicles & even the Police ask for footage, what a difference, but then we have more CCTV than anywhere else in the world I believe.
I shall do the same I think in the new van
Piggy back fuse in your fuse box…..there’s a thread on here showing how to do it.Hi
I'm reading this thread with interest.
Can I ask those that have fitted dashcams how they connected the power supply cable to the power source in the the van E.G courtesy light or fusebox?.
As in the actual connection of the stripped wires.
I'm talking about how you joined the wires together and what connecters you used and how you overcame the restricted space that your hands were working in.
Thanks
Me too & Austria didn't know about it at the time. Could be expensive in Austria, 1st offence €10,000, 2nd offence €22,000.Have passed through Luxembourg many times, usually just stopping for fuel. Have never removed my dashcam though, must remember to do so.
