Strolling through the village over the weekend I was passed by a brand new Hymer, raised ride height, knobbly tyres. And painted black. It's a factory option, not a wrap. It looked sinister to put it mildly. Given its supposed off road credentials, what kind of hell-scape is it trying to blend in with? Is it subconsciously a reflection of the times we live in? I've noticed you can spec black upholstery on new MH's now too. What's going on, funsters? Don't we want a little light in our lives?

I saw a matt finished sludge one on a Norfolk campsite last year. As far as I was concerned it stood out as an ugly eyesore. I do wonder how hot the dark matt finishes make the motorhomes in direct sunlight. Everyone to their own I guess.

It’s the new trend, everything raised, rugged and painted anything other than white attracted more interest than anything else at Dusseldorf, overlanding style vehicles are the new in thing👍

So something for the sheep amongst us then? I don't dislike some non-white finishes, but decals can do a lot to enhance the look too. White reflects heat which is an overriding factor for me though.

Having done Overlanding (in a 4x4 Merc truck) many moons ago, the 'Overland look' (rough roader rather than off roader), was exactly what I was looking for in a motorhome.
Rather than the conventional 'ice cream van' or 'caravan on the back of a van' or the 'loaf of bread' A class look

The black Hymer will be a MLT 580 4x4 or Hymer Crossover 4x4.
Which if I had £120k in loose change in my pocket I'd buy one tomorrow.

It wasn’t the streets of Philadelphia was it?

Well, their market research wasn't for nothing!
True, the black may look cool, but it would be a nightmare to keep clean.
I'd rather for a lighter colour (not white), a shade of light grey or light blue

I suppose if you like SUVs, this is up your alley. Plenty of people do....(I'm not one)

I wonder how raising the vehicle affects the handling? MH's have a high enough CoG without jacking them up further!

apart from the iveco based they are tending to show a degree of fragility if pushed far in their promoted usage !

Hymers are pretty well insulated, but it can't help, can it?

We went to buy a new car the other day and in the showroom was a Matt green one that was available for immediate delivery but as the sales guy said there is a 10 page booklet on how to treat the Matt paint ie after Washing dab dry with micro fibre cloth do not rub bugs off etc😳 So ordered a metallic grey instead🤣
He did mention it may have an affect on trade in values in the future.

That's insane. Why? Just why? You can wrap a car and have normal paint underneath if you have to. And I bet matt paint costs an arm too!

Hymer's Venturer S is selling well and that is over 200k.
Thankfully it's not a matt finish.

Hymers Off Roading film below
.
OK, so they are not a Landrover, but they would gave any other 'rough roader' a run for the money.
(And with decent tyres you will be towing others off the field of wet grass.)

Maybe sick of getting bogged down on soggy grass fields.
Four wheel drive and off road tyres and away you go.....if you can avoid those axle deep in mud

That ties in with a discussion we had this morning while following a Barbie Coloured Range Rover (new). My wife said “I hope she got that cheap” I replied “I doubt it but the next owner will.”

Use to see that Katie Price (Jordan) when I worked around Brighton years ago, she had a pink RR and it looked a right Chav mobile.
Criminal having a car like that in pink :crying: :crying:

Those cars look so bad in outrageous colours you would have to be someone with absolutely no taste to own one, such as a celebrity or a footballer just my opinion 🤣
And I am a proper petrol head 👍
