Ok after the first horror experience resulting in rejecting my first home and getting my money back from the dealer, I'm off to look at another this weekend.

This time I'm buying privately and using my own common sense, skills and the buyers guide from this site instead of assuming a dealer will provide a good up together van, it would appear they can't be trusted.

What damp / moister detector do people use? Preferably one from screwfix / toolstation or Amazon so I can get one for the weekend.

Thanks

RB

4-in-1 Pinless Moisture Meter , Digital LCD with Tricolor Bar Graph for Drywall, Masonry, Softwood and Hardwood w/ Auto Calibration & Alarm

This is the one I use from Amazon, seems good and doesn't leave pin holes like the cheaper ones do.

Sorry can't post the actual link for some reason.

Got a non-invasive one with all the settings Reallyretired mentioned and it has been very accurate when checked against the company's invasive one.
As long as you have one, it will definitely help and you will appear to be "on the ball.".
(Not saying you are not) ;)
Mitch.

The one that gellyneck has highlighted is also on Amazon as I was looking at it myself. More reviews / questions to have a read off but I'm leaning towards it as an indicator myself.

Amazon product ASIN B003CSNV2Q

Ah the one above I can get amazon delivered tomorrow. Bonus. Thanks all.

We use a non invasive meter as don't want to damage the finishes.

CEM DT-128

It was recommended on the forum previously.

I think they are a bit of a black art to use properly but anything over 15% would raise a dealers alarms. 20% would be remedial action required.

Cheers due to my last nightmare I'm well up on damp readings!

Make sure you get a non-evasive/paddle type they measure to a much greater depth than the pin type. Also if I was selling my van and someone wanted to check with a pin type I would tell them where to go & it wouldn't be anywhere near my van.

Don’t buy a German van for goodness sake.
