HGV's. They do actually have blind spots, most MH's do not.Seen numerous French motorhomes and HGV's sporting the "angle mort" stickers. Wonder if following "your advice" you would offer to pay any fines incurred for following such ?
From years ago, a sign on the BBC Staff Notice Board: 'Found; 1 pair of glasses'As far as I am aware a hi viz jacket is required only for each person or crew member travelling in the vehicle. I certainly won’t be carrying four when there only two of us in the van.
As for glasses, if you need them for driving, your licence will have code 01 in column 12. You are required to carry a spare pair. Makes sense to me.
Yes, our spare specs and yellow jackets live in the cab door pockets. In Spain you'll need 2 red triangles, and, if you wear specs, you should also have a spare pair with you. In France, the HiVis vests must be accessible from inside the car; most French hang them over the ba ck of the chair [unless you're off to a gilet jaune protest when you roll the Vest up into a towel roll [think swimming pool!] and wedge it in the corner of the dashboard]. And Angles Mort stickers?
Steve
As did the hi vis jackets/patches on motorcycle/scooter riders. Plus changes one way then the other with speed limitsCouple of years ago the Frogs wanted you to carry a breathalyser test kit or 2. Think it died a death.
Plus the same physical dimensioned Motorhome can be 3500kg or 4000kg, it should be done on length which would make far more senseHGV's. They do actually have blind spots, most MH's do not.
When I'm sat in a Lorry, if you stood directly next to the passenger door or even next to the front panel I wouldnt be able to see you through the window/windscreen. When I turn left I lose sight of the right side of the trailer and vice versa. These are blind spots, the number of MH's that have the same problem is very very small.
When you consider how cheap these are and how little space they take - really whats the issue ? The reason to carry is for once common sense and its not like its just a Frenchism I saw jackets in French lidl not that long ago for 3 euro,As far as I am aware a hi viz jacket is required only for each person or crew member travelling in the vehicle. I certainly won’t be carrying four when there only two of us in the van.

Well I’ve just traveled form our chalet in the French Alps down to Marseillan in the south of France. I must have past at least six French motorhomes displaying the stickersBut my advice is don't stick any on until you see a Frenchman with them. Bob.
Well, they are French, and it's this manic inconsistency that makes them so lovable! We had new plumbing installed in what the [English] Estate Agent laughingly described as 'the Barn' of our French hovel and then a new concrete floor laid. I started to screw the 'Rail et Montant' framework into the new floor to build a bathroom, but was worried that I might hit a pipe, so at 12 noon, just as Matthieu, the plumber was about to leave for lunch, I asked him to do a quick 'eyeball' of the line I was proposing to take the screws. It would have taken him 25 seconds at most.As did the hi vis jackets/patches on motorcycle/scooter riders. Plus changes one way then the other with speed limits
Rationale, logic, common sense and the law, particularly in France, make uneasy bedfellows.Plus the same physical dimensioned Motorhome can be 3500kg or 4000kg, it should be done on length which would make far more sense
Germany if over 3.5t must use wheel chocks if parked on a slope.Did I read somewhere about wheel chocks being required? Don’t know and probably my random brain ticking away.
We got pulled year before last going into Austria. Intended to buy after filling up but little man with his machine was on us like a hawk. Saved me faffing about inside anyway. But some just fill up and take the chance and drive off.Main thing you'll need,,,,,,,is a LOT of money for tolls or tags. If over 3.5t.. Austria is a fortune to cross if you use motorways.
Cost me 500 euros on one trip to Hungary to especially as I got fined 250 for not buying the go box earlier.
we'd tried to buy one at the first service station, but they'ed sold out so went to the next one.
The little hitlers were waiting for me at the Hungary border, even showed me a photo of me entering Austria.
But a Frenchman can argue the toss with his french counterpart. Even to the point of taking it to court. But my advice is don't stick any on until you see a Frenchman with them. Bob.
If you are over 3.5 tonnes you need the French stickers warning of blind spots to other people. Applies to ALL vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, there is thread somewhere on the forumDepending on the country, they are not all the same.
Some countries want 2 triangles.
If you wear glasses you must carry a spare pair.
Almost everywhere you need a yellow jacket; each.
Fire extinguisher in some places.
First aid kit in most places.
In France and Germany there are special window stickers required if you wish to visit some cities. (Crit Aire in France) not expensive and one purchase for life.
Not essential anywhere but something to help get out of sand or mud.
I just avoid the motorway. Switzerland is super easy now with the app.We got pulled year before last going into Austria. Intended to buy after filling up but little man with his machine was on us like a hawk. Saved me faffing about inside anyway. But some just fill up and take the chance and drive off.
Switzerland you have to pay for every day you are in the country on all roads if over 3.5t.
But it’s cheap and easy !.Switzerland you have to pay for every day you are in the country on all roads if over 3.5t.
Have a look on HGV DIRECT website..£11 for 2 magnetic ones. they'll fit on the front doors.... for the rear I was thinking of sticking one to a thin steel plate and fastening to the ladder,,,but think it will be on the wrong side. probably have to stick one on the rear.I’ve order the signs it would appear that they will take about 4 weeks to be delivered
I not going to stick them on I going to apply them to magnetic strips for the front of the vehicle .
it should work
cannot do anything but stick them to the back of the vehicle
bit of a pain but is it worth the risk
happy days
Same happened to us in Slovenia, 1st border waved us through ( she was on the phone ) 2nd border teeming with cops, who wanted cash !! They got VERY angry when I insisted on paying by card !!Main thing you'll need,,,,,,,is a LOT of money for tolls or tags. If over 3.5t.. Austria is a fortune to cross if you use motorways.
