D+ wire on hymer transit chassis 2009 EBL 99

You can run the fridge on glass whilst travelling provided you have a crash protection valve . This is designed to turn off the gas in the event of a crash. You can buy gas regulators made by Truma and GOK which have this feature. I think the control on the AES fridge which will turn off the gas automatically when you stop the engine is probably also from the D+ ( autorouter ?) so I suspect without the D+ working this safety feature will be absent.
.. Is it ok to run the fridge on gas when travelling ? If i dont stop at service stations ? Given i dont have a d+ ??? At the moment i just turn it off til i am stationary ?

Thats very interesting...thankyou Paddymacc.

It's only a tiny current, so any old +12V will do. A wire to the leisure battery is as good as any, if it's convenient. With an inline fuse if it's straight from the battery.

When the engine stops, there is a delay of about 15 minutes before the gas to the fridge turns on. It's a safety thing, for when you stop for fuel. It can look like a mystery fault if you're not aware of it.

Make sure you don't switch on the D+ until after the engine has started and the alternator light on the dashboard is off. If you switch it on too soon, the leisure battery will be trying to assist the starter battery with powering the starter motor, which is not good for the leisure battery or the wiring.
Amazing...ive done it 👍👍👍 and the leisure battery now charges from the alternator !!! Really cool. Thank you so much.

I shall write myself a big note to make sure i turn switch off when i turn engine off and to wait for the alternator light to go out after start up before switching it on. Brilliant to have this as back up for the days when the sun doesnt shine. I am chuffed to bits to have been able to do it myself too. Thank you for your patience and all your time in sharing what you know 🙏

On the EBL99, the fridge can be powered from either the leisure battery or the alternator/starter battery. There is a fuse labelled 'Kompr/AES Kuhlschrank' which protects the supply from the leisure battery. If you remove that fuse, it will not work from the leisure battery. It will still work from the alternator/starter battery. Some people prefer to remove the fuse, and only insert it for special reasons - on a ferry crossing for example, when you have to isolate the gas at the bottle. Avoids inadvertently flattening the leisure battery.

There is a relay inside the EBL that connects the fridge element to the starter battery when the engine is running and a D+ is present. I presume that's not working since the D+ is not working.

Do you have the manual for the EBL99? There is a circuit diagram of it near the end. It's available on the Schaudt website. Unfortunately the website is in German, but there are English versions of the manuals. If you can't find it let us know, I can post it. You select the manual required, enter your email, and they send you a link to download it. Usually get the email back in a minute or two.
Hi Autorouter, could you please help one more time ? I set off for norfolk yesterday, and turned on the new switch to charge the leisure battery once the alternator light went off 👍 i set the fridge to auto with the gas off. After 4-5 mins a strange noise came from the fridge and got louder ? I turned off the new switch and the noise stopped immediately. Now on site the gas is firing up and on but the fridge is no longer cooling ? Do you have any ideas what may have happened or if it is fixable? I have checked the fuses in the ebl99 and they are ok. I do not have ehu so not checked if that is working...

First, is the fridge reasonably level? These 3-way fridges are sensitive to level, need to be within about 5 degrees of the horizontal. When you say the gas is firing up, do you mean the gas flame in the fridge burner, or just generally - the hob and heater for example? Was the noise coming from the fridge or could it have been from the EBL? If the fridge, was it near the top (the control board) or round the back?

Hello. Thanks so much for your reply. I am definitely more than 5 degrees off level so will look to level up tomorrow 👍 yes i mean the gas flame in the fridge burner. And no the noise was not from the ebl...it sounded high as if from the top of the fridge....dog was also looking at top of fridge !! Could it be connected or is it just a random coincidence do you think ?

There is a relay on the control board that switches the power to the 12V heater element of the fridge. If that is failing or the voltage is a bit iffy, then it can keep switching on and off quickly, which makes a buzzing, clicking sound.

At the back of the fridge there is coolant circuit in which a mixture of liquid and gas circulates. A small amount of heat in the lower corner causes it to circulate and produce cooling. The heat can be a 240V element, a 12V element or a small gas flame. Being off level affects the coolant circulation, which stops all three modes, mains, gas and 12V.

Thanks very much indeed for the explanation, that all makes sense to me. I will level up tomorrow and look at the relay etc when we look at the d+ signal. Thank you.

Hello Autorouter. Just wanted to thank you again for all your help. The switch has been working brilliantly and been a total blessing through this cloudy weather. The fridge not cooling was totally unrelated (some rust from the gas inlet pipe had dislodged and blocked the gas jet.) I realise i never replied with that update Thanks again for everything.

So glad you got everything sorted, full solar next.
