Just had renewal for insurance double last year's premium!!. On looking at the endless pdf's I have an unsettled pending claim against me...from March that I know nothing of,so contacted the broker (Lexham) claims said they have very little info only the driver of my vehicle s name.. which is not me or anyone I know ( van is insured for me only) they couldn't give the location of the accident,(surely as the name is not on the policy then no claim against the policy exists) They will look into it but meanwhile my renewal remains as quoted.
Why has this not been sorted nearly 4 months after the date of the alleged accident ..not even informed me of the claim ??? This was the first time I've insured via them ...and likely the last unless a good explanation and competitive quote arrive very quickly
Rant over ( for now):sicker:

So no details have been sent to you as policy holder?
Ask them for the details as you are informing police as someone has obviously been massacreded as you or they have cloned you vehicle.

No ..no contact from Lexham, the driver's name given to them in the claim as driving my van is unknown to me( and in no way similar to my name) ...they are looking into it now ( 4 months on) that I have raised the issue .would only say they have no location for the " accident" and due to data protection blah, blah

That’s ridiculous, the claim would be against your policy there in your data that they hold as data handlers, if you request it they must supply it

Don’t insure with them first of all and ring around for other quotes.
Their quote circa £550 best elsewhere £308.but unsure if the outstanding claim will affect other quotes as I ( rightfully at the time) having no knowledge of claim declared no claims

I hope you get it sorted out PDQ.
I would set them a time limit in writing, with the understanding that you will take things further with the FOS (Financial Ombudsman Service) if they don't meet the deadline.

Call them and ask to speak to a compliance officer and make an official complaint on the aspect of not being informed.

They then have 5 working days to acknowledge your complaint and resolve it in 3 months.

I know this would take time but at least you will have an answer from them if the worst was to happen as to your insurance record and an accident was recorded to your database..

If other firms, are tried, they might quote taking accountof the dubious unsettled claim, resulting in high premium.
The "unsettled claim" needs sorted and removed or others will take it at face value.

Just had a call from Lexham... after my email yesterday..asking for a full and proper explanation as to why my policy has a pending claim I knew nothing of and their claims department say the driver the claim is against is not on my policy, also asked about contacting the police ref my vehicle being cloned & the ombudsman.
In short our claims department are looking into it.You can renew your policy(@ twice last year's price) if we reject the claim you will be refunded...Oh so if the claim as is obvious is rejected how much will the new policy be ? We can't quote until the claim is cleared.
You can raise a complaint with us,if after 8 weeks you are not satisfied with our final decision, you can raise it with the ombudsman.
So can you send proof of no claims please ?
Yes certainly I will get admin to do it straight away.
Ten mins later email from admin sorry as there is an outstanding claim we are unable to issue proof of no claims.
Anyone know the whereabouts of a good soli brickwall .....my head has an urge to attack one:madder::madder:

I wonder how they can say that, the person against whom the claim is being made is not on your policy and then also mention rejection of the claim and refunding you. Something is amiss, whether they're winging it or not explaining it clearly to you.

Just ensure all future communication with them is in writing.

The result is I pay their price and gamble on a fair refund( they are 25% more on comparison sites ignoring the claim than the best price) or I go elsewhere with an outstanding claim and zero ( instead of maximum) no claims, also as I wait and hope they sort the claim dynamic pricing is kicking in with other insurers.

You badly need to deal with this in writing with your current insurers. Never mind telephone calls.
Demand that they supply details so that you can hopefully provide alibi evidence that it cannot be you. With luck you were abroad at the time or in some other way able to document it is not you. They cannot be permitted to withhold data from you allegedly about yourself.

I bet some dozy clerk has attached this claim to the wrong digital file?

The most frustrating thing is the claims department say it is a very vague(their words) claim from another insurance company...as said they don't know wher the alleged accident occured( according to them) Obviously I will be " cleared "in time but for now( or the next 8 weeks till I can ask the ombudsman to step in they are my only option ...yes I can and will put it in writing but with only a matter of 10days before renewal that is not going to help... I'm seeing me paying their premium, then ultimately fighting for compensation to equate their premium to the best quote I have now. Plus compensation for my trouble(with them claiming they did all they could to resolve the matter etc.etc.but this is sh1t I could do without & likely to span months, before the ombudsman decides.
It won't be the first time I've gone this route I had a claim against Tesco bank that they ultimately declined and appealed the ombudsman decision they did loose and paid near 2k for what was a £400 claim.

I agree an utter pain for you!
Could they/should they not give you details of the claiming company, date and case reference so that you can demand further details of them timeously. Obviously tell them it is not you and put them on notice that you will look to them for any financial loss if they do not expedited their claim to a conclusion being confident t is without merit.

That’s cheap, who you insured with please
Caravan guard its an 18 year old van however contents are boosted as the standard few £100 is insufficient it also states you must have access to another vehicle ..owed by you or as a named driver
It's also a yearly high milage van however have reduced it from over 10000 miles a year to 6000

Must be really maddening for you. I'm not sure (unless you have quotes already) that another insurer will touch you with an outstanding claim. I think your approach is spot on, just try not to get too wound up about it......
My only experience is of a claim when I drove over a home made welded up drain cover which flicked up and ripped the bodywork. The cover (and others) was bent cos it was not strong enough for timber lorries. The claim went into the following year so on renewal I paid a higher premium as well as the excess for the repair. But I got my excess back off the council insurance and premium reduced once the claim was settled. Wasn't impressed with legal protection, I had to do all the spadework myself (back to Scotland for extra photos, photos from google streetview, find british standards for drain covers etc......)

Sounds like a crash for cash scam and a bogus claim by someone who has your vehicle details. If the claim has been made to your broker or underwriter they should have the claimants details

Update.Thursday AM senior claims handler called me.... Apparently my van reversed out of a driveway in Watford 20th march hitting the claimants car( actually a hire car) that has since been repaired..now the hire company are claiming..I said I was not in Watford..it happens that we left home near Skegness and went directly to Newhaven to catch a ferry the next day(21st) and that I have Dartford crossing receipt as well as credit card statement showing purchases from B&Q (AdBlue) and Sainsbury's ( diesel) both in Newhaven Handler said he would send a direct email for me to reply to attaching evidence and photos of the back of my van.
By mid day Monday no email had arrived so I messaged customer servic and shortly after a text from a claims investigation company arrives saying they need to contact me ... could I advise a suitable time,I replied immediately with any time is good but asap please.
Minutes later The email promised for Friday arrives,( from claims department) I immediately replied with photos and screenshots..
Nothing from either since :madder: :madder:

It’s a scam. Either the claimants have got the reg number from a genuine accident and given their insurance yours or it’s someone trying to con their own insurance. If you have proof you were somewhere else at the relevant time happy days. If you have a satnav interrogate it’s history if you driving at the time or close to it it should prove your location. Tell your insurance company and they should disregard the incident and treat you as a victim of a fraud.

Have you looked on street view? Just a thought.

Could you get your van on said driveway?

Do you have a Tracker fitted. I can see all the journeys I have taken with timings etc on the Metatrak app.

No tracker,no address for driveway.
Spoke to senior claims handler, he's surprised they haven't closed the claim....
They have given an unknown to me name and address for the driver of my van,we have supplied photos of my undamaged van, evidence that I was in Newhaven and on the QE2bridge and on the ferry the next day.I have just had a text from a claims investigation company making an appointment for a telephone interview for 4.30pm Friday to last 60 to 90mins...to make a court binding declaration of denial( they are working on behalf of my insurers.
Meanwhile my policy expires on the 5 th of August.
Seems crazy to me that as the name supplied is not on my policy they can still claim all to do with the road traffic act....they have to insure the vehicle regardless of driver....or so the senior claims handler says

Finally today after much chasing from me the claim against me has been withdrawn...
The claimants had stated the driver of my van was someone I've never heard of and not named on my policy.Said driver said the insurance was with Admiral (mine was Lexham) I proved Me and my van were nowhere near the scene of the accident.
Now as my van insurance ran out a week ago I can get it insured..just in time we are away on Friday !

Wow, what a frustrating story, I don’t know how any of us can avoid a similar situation except to keep all our dashcam footage for months. Need a few large SD cards though.
I wouldn’t like to have to prove where I was on any day. It was almost lucky you had the receipts that you did.
Hope you have a great holiday.
