Cost of pre return vet visit for the dog

I’m not willing to waste my holiday time hunting out a cheap vet to save €10.
Neither am I, but as Buchy is conveniently placed en route to Calais we'll just keep using them.

I have taken our own tablet out with us before but i don’t think there is much saving and I would rather know the correct tablet has been given.
Take the wrong tablet out or the meds change whilst out there you might pay twice for tablet!
One year I asked our vet for a worming tab to take with us and they had to check as the type used had just changed!
Yes we will probably be using Buchy nice people, nice vet, good price and easy parking.

We always take our own tablets. That way we know it is the correct type, we know the dog scoff it down (no cheese, ham or messing about required), and we know how the dog “responds” to the treatment 💩 💩

We used the vet at Buchy on Minxy recommendation. Used our worming tablet (we get them as part of the plan we have with our vet).
Was €23 plus a Laughing cow cheesy triangle !
Spent a quiet night in the free aire by the police station and sports ground
Managed to get to Buchy about 2 hours ago so decided to see if the vet could see us today instead of in the morning as arranged. They said yes and we've now had our 3 done and used the vet's tablets*, 1 tablet for Bella and 2 tablets for Minky and Tazzy, total cost €38.65.

* We used theirs as they are a lot smaller than the Drontal chewy bone ones we have which ours dogs refuse to chew so trying to get them down their throats isn't easy, I'll just use them for worming at home when I can hide them in some tasty treats.

We're now on the aire and as we've done over 4.5 hours of driving today (not including stops) Minky is having a snooze as she's tired because she doesn't sleep when we travel whilst Bella, who does sleep, is wide awake and chomping on a chew stick.

Why is it I find these threads AFTER I could use them?. Just paid €39, no tablet, at La Lande de Fronsac just north of Bordeaux - got it off the Vets in France map referred to elsewhere which said €14.50! I've sent an update message.
From what I'm reading looks like French vets have cottoned on to a "good thing"!

This must have been prior to lockdown ( memory fades) but coming out of Turkey
we had the dog treated with tapeworm. When we got into France we realised we missed the time table. Off to a French vet, mid France , he said he didn’t want to give the dog more worming tablets so he just charged me for the consultation, gave me the required invoice etc and off we went.
I was impressed that he was more concerned with the dog‘s welfare rather than paperwork.

looks like the vets in a good location for our route back north in a month or so.

I can’t seem to find the vet though, has someone a link to website pleas?

thanks, Shawn

Does the vet at Buchy issue Euro passports for dogs as well?

Yes, we met a UK motorhomer who had got one there previously, not sure of the cost though so best to contact them, see above for info.

Did they charge a set price per dog for the pet passport excluding the wormer? Thanks

I emailed them a couple of years ago about obtaining an EU passport but received no reply, so probably best to phone or call in.

Just seen a couple if reviews on S4S, price now seems to be 23€ excluding tablet(s)

Just had my two dogs for the worming paperwork. I used my own worming tablets as there on a plan and the charge was 10 euros per dog. He was happy to supply aswell but he said no need use your own. He did the paperwork in a few minutes and that was that. Just crossed back home and all good. The vets were in Denia

The vets were so below

We are spending 3 days in Switzerland before going to the tunnel and could easily visit a vet there within the 5 days allowed before crossing. Anyone ever done that as it would save the faff of finding a vet in France?

I don’t really see why the size of the dog is that relevant - surely the additional cost of a bigger tablet is pennies? Last time in France, we used our own tablet - the vet had to administer it, and it cost the same for the visit and signature, but good to use the tablet that the dog is used to.

We have used the vets at Buchy for several pre return visits and the price has always been good. We always take our own tablets but this time we forgot 🙄. We came home this week and last Monday paid 42 euros for 2 border collies (price included 2 Milbemax tabs). The dogs have their own French passports. The practice appears to be expanding and there is a lot of building work going on at the moment. We had to park in the supermarket car park this time.

We have our girls done in Spain €10 each with pill last April. Takes us 2/3 days at most to get back to Calais. They both have a Spanish passport from our Spanish vets only problem we have to have rabies shot annually

Why not get the rabies vacs done elsewhere so you can have 3 year ones?

I assume the tablet sizes were bigger hence the extra cost.

If buying tablets in the UK they range from around £1.68 to over £5 depending on make and size so yes it does make a difference.

We don’t tend to stop much on the way home, once in Spain and once in France usually just hammer home, I suspect if we started spending more time in other areas we would get this sorted and find out which areas are prepared to give the 3 year jab. However, we come back to the same place every year at roughly the same time.

Many places give the 3 year jab and now you have the PP you can get it done anywhere in the EU, why not see how much it is at vets higher up in Spain who are able to give a 3 year jab, even Pets World will do one and it should just be the fee for the jab and no admin as that is for producing a passport, not only will it save the dog having to have the jab so often but obviously save you some dosh too.
