Just had two nights at a CAMpRA site in Scotland £12 / night with metered electrics

Turned everything off mains, only left fridge and battery charging , Alde on gas only

Amazed to use 9Kwhr in 36 hours 🤔 not sure I trust the meter

Happy to pay £4.50 but surprised at consumption

But pleased with gas consumption, refilled from empty , had 6 nights in cold weather with Alde set for comfort and not used first 11kg bottle 👍

I've used a smart meter on our MH only doing charging and fridge (and we have a small fridge) and it's about 4-5kw a day when parked on the drive, so 9kwh for 36 hours doesn't seem unreasonable to me at least.

Remember aborbtion tri fuel fridges like in a MH do use more electricity than a compressor on average.

Actually worked out that on gas in summer in the mh offgrid it's substantially cheaper to be offgrid on gas even on a calor bottle with the premium for many even unmetered EHU from the clubs. The offgrid saving more than makes up for the gas use. In winter I would imagine even less gas use.

I’ve said it in the past, I do not trust metered electric David. Felt we’d been ripped off on both occasions that we’ve used it and challenged the owner on one of those occasions. Just told they are calibrated and that was it. Wouldn’t use again in a hurry.

TBH even in winter doing a one-two nighter we would go offgrid.

For our 5 day xmas break this year we are on grid but unmetered as makes some sense given we only have gas for heating for potentially 3 cold nights as one bottle is low... we are running down our gas ahead of getting gaslow now.

Once we get the gaslow installed next year we'll (with 22kg of gas) be able to do even winter offgrid I expect, using the ecoflow to recharge the van leisure batt as needed.

With the cost of electricity I did think of getting a safefill but more of the CLs we normally use include EHU between £15 and £20 per night, in fact we have only used 1 non electric pitch all summer

On our recent trip to Germany/Italy the sites/aires where electric was an additional charge, it was coming in at €1 per kwh. We managed without the hookup.

But what’s going to charge the ecoflow back up…?

Good question. They also often have (much?) less battery capacity than a fairly mediocre leisure/habitation battery so are unlikely to buy you very much extra capacity. 🤷‍♂️

Just been out for a beer, £5.60 a pint 😫, all considered your electricity isn’t that expensive.

I wasn’t moaning at the cost, just surprised at consumption

However I would be seriously pissed off paying £5.60 for a pint 😳

You must be a gullible southerner 🤔🤣

If anyone thinks they have been overcharged you can ask how they come to that figure ..
but frankly, I doubt any site owner would risk being prosecuted for overcharging ..

The park owner cannot charge you more for gas and electricity than they paid for it, including any connection charges.

How Can I Find Out How My Bill Has Been Calculated?

The resale of electricity at holiday parks is controlled by legislation that deals with ‘maximum resale price’ and this is set by Ofgem. The long and short of the legislation is to note that resellers (in this instance your park owner) can’t resell metered electricity at more than they pay for it. The other obligation is that the reseller must explain, when asked, how they have arrived at the cost of the unit price.

We have a standard Currys 230 volt under counter fridge freezer and it uses about 1 kWh per 24 hours on hook up. That is however about 50 amp hours of battery when not.
So only good when the sun is shining or when doing a reasonable amount of driving.

Pauline's meter is accurate and she charges at the rate she has to pay - no profit. As long as she read meter correctly of course .....:unsure:

I believe there are some apps that you can install that offer free hook ups, I have not tried them and I am not sure they will save you money on electricity

If you look at my earlier post you with see David's usage was about right.

Just got back from 5 weeks in Germany only used Stellaplatz or wilded we don't use EHU but I noticed all the Sellaplatz we stopped on charged €0.5 per kw.

David, don’t forget that despite the Alde heating running off gas, the circulation of the hot water to rads requires a 12v DC pump which in turn will add to you’re AC consumption.

Unless I have misunderstood your post .. ?

There are no free EHUs .. it's either,

a) Pitch with no EHU
b) Pitch price inclusive of EHU
c) Metered EHU

Unless it is metered, sites cannot 'legally' charge separately for electricity.

Even in 40º here , with 2 freezers indoors plus a fridge & the van fridge also plugged in i'd only just use around 4to6 a day so would struggle with that amount in the Uk in cooler temps. In winter the above barely uses 2kw/day?

Stayed on a cl .Now charging for electricity on meter. We only have gas heating. So put a fiver on for three nights with app. Hot water.Fridge on constant. Electric kettle. Charging phones etc.Worked out at £1 a night. Didn't realise you could put increments of 1£ .Until later.will remember in future. £2 left for the next customers Didn't think the price was bad.

The fridge uses 4.2kw/24hr. It's an absorption fridge not a compressor.

I believe it was (an attempt!) at a joke, the 'hookups' being of the amorous :* variety rather than electric 🔌

We just stayed on a site that had metered electric for the first time. We had to pay £10 for a pre payment card that you put into the meter and that transfers the credit to your EHU. When you leave you put the card back in and whats left goes back on the card and you get a refund. So you only pay for what you use. It ended up costing us £1.13 for two nights. 12v compressor fridge, fair bit of tea drinking on elec and a low wattage toaster. I thought it worked well.
