Cost of cl/cs 2024.

Many of our tugger friends don’t have solar or battery storage, so need the EHU.

Making it optional, if offered at all, makes more sense.

That's what i meant really - not to be included in the price. However, the cost of installation of electric, particularly if individually metered means they probably want to build it into the overall price to make their money back. So effectively we self contained units are paying for these tuggers!

Back in the day we never had all this “need” for electric and we managed fine for the holidays we had.
The caravan manufacturers have slowly but surely built their way into the need to have the reliance on electric.

I think it's more the case of consumer demand ....

Exactly! Why not have a lower rate on any site for a MH which is kitted out for off-grid and does not need EHU, plumbed into a water supply or daily filling of water barrels and all of the space (large awnings, car parking etc) that a caravan needs.

Because it is easier to just have a flat rate. How many times would someone say no to electric get the lower price then sneaky plug in. I’ve seen it many times on campsites.

THS - Temporary Holiday Sites is where the bargains (reasonable prices) are! CL/S have had their day sadly!
Used them for the first time this year at Corbridge.

Can highly recommend mainly because they give you the freedom to move around with mostly no booking required and reasonable value.
Sadly our days returning to the UK with a MH are over, we find restrictions and costs far too expensive ...
Realistically we can afford to go, but as residents in Spain, we have been spoilt by the freedom and value for money that motorhoming in Europe can offer..
For example...the past two nights we are staying in a very nice village...quite rustic and surrounded in quiet countryside...great for biking and walking...or just relaxing..
It's secure with space for 16 vans, free water and hook-up....3 nights maximum stay...just 5 vans on last night..
The community encourage us to visit the various touristy locations or use the bars and restaurants...and why not indeed.😃🇪🇺
Apart from small amounts it's mostly Europe for us as we don't like to book in advance. prefer just to meander around and make daily decisions on parking. That is almost impossible in the UK.

I'm still waiting on my Maltese citizenship. When that comes through the van will head to France/Spain every trip.

If that was/is the case then the older less equipped models wouldn’t sell.
Admittedly there is a certain amount of the must have the latest gadgets so these people upgrade, but how much of that is consumer demand or manufacturing bling to keep the sales rolling in is anyone’s guess

I am sure similar comments on a number of things can be aimed at us motorhome owners.
At the end of the day we all have choices and make those to get the best out of our chosen hobbies.

Further to my previous post #24, my total site fees over 71 nights this year has averaged £11.35. On our European trip we had 23 stops, of which 13 aires were free. The dearest site, an all singing and dancing 'full fat' one in a Spanish coastal resort and walking distance to the beach was the dearest at £24 per night. The UK tourist market seems to have read the same handbook as Rachel Reeves. The only glimmer of light in this gloom has been a few reasonably priced aires in Scotland. It's almost reaching the point where I can't afford to holiday in my own country.

And there you have it...your final line... motorhoming is a hobby...for us it a means to travel and somewhere to sleep....our hobby extends beyond the motorhome, biking, walking and many other outdoor hobbies..
Therefore for the Motorhoming Hobbiest it's quite expensive..the initial outlay, upkeep and the cost to use it..
Compare it with other hobbies like Golf it's not bad..you don't have to buy the course and just buy the bats and balls...and pay to use them.
I can admit to spending 40,000€ over the past number of years on bikes...but once bought they offer many days of usage with little upkeep...but my overnight fees are generally free or just a few euros...then...when the time comes I have to replace my humble Hymer...and might be too old or safe to ride a bike....I can then become a MH Hobbiest..please treat with a massive tongue in cheek...

I guess my point really is that we all have choices on how we spend our cash.

Sites , cls, sites, free camping, ehu, no ehu! Etc.

We can choose to use them or not.

It’s not anyone else’s fault if we don’t like the choice we have made.
I.e. “ it’s tuggers fault we have to pay for ehu “;

Off my soap box! 🤣🙄
