Just looking
Was looking at UK Touring posts and jumped to last page thinking it would feature the latest posts.
Saw cost of cls and started reading.
Couldn't believe such low costs then it dawned on me that it was from 2007.....DOH.
Anyway, that got me thinking; have never been on a cl.
Just used ccc club sites and cs.
I know I have typically payed anywhere from £7 to £15 for cs.
But for ccc have been booking in advance mid season and getting them under £12 a night.

What are your experiences of prices of cs and cl sites.

No longer a C&cc member, but we do use CLs. Sadly the days of cls at £10-15 seem to have gone - the norm now seems to be £20-£25. The cynic in are does wonder whether the CMC inspectors encourage this sort of price level so as not to be so much competition on price for club sites! (To be fair though, a lot of newer CLs do have more facilities like showers & toilets - but do we need them?

You are so right in your assumption. We are on a CL atm where we spend quite a lot of our time visiting. The owner has been encouraged to hike his prices several times over the 3 and a bit years we’ve been coming here. My thoughts entirely on keeping the price gap as close as possible to the mother clubs prices.

I wonder what the costs are for a CL/CS to become/maintain an affiliated member to one of the two main clubs are? Presumably marketing via listing on main clubs website/magazine, plus indemnity insurance.
If so maybe the main clubs have put their affiliated member prices up, as everything these days seems to be costing more.
Just a thought.
PS: £20+ per night would be pushing it for many I guess, as they don't need shower blocks etc, just water & dump, EHU maybe as additional cost option.

THS - Temporary Holiday Sites is where the bargains (reasonable prices) are! CL/S have had their day sadly!
Believe cls are independent but recommend by ccc.
cs are independent but affiliated.
We stayed at a cs in June on IOW which was £7 a night. No shower but everything else.

I rarely tour in the U.K. but when I do stop over for a night or two I would be happy to pay more for a CL than for a pukkah site just for the informality and tranquillity.

The problem with cls and cs at this time of year is that the cheaper ones are on grass, which with all the damp weather a bit risky or you make a right mess of the pitches.

We have just paid £10 for a basic cl and £25 for a first class hard standing with heated facilities in a great location.

If I choose to pay £25 I would rather have top facilities and location with a small number of pitches than the same with 100 pitches.
Although there are not many full facilities sites at a sensible price any more.

We only stayed at ccc club sites in mid season partly because of our destinations and partly because booking up 14 days minimum in advance got us really great prices.

There are still some cheap ones about, this one (CS) is a fiver a night, very basic and no electric, just a well drained field so no problems with rain. They do keep suggesting he raises his prices come inspection time but he doesn't do it for the money.
We use it a lot...

Where? Looks just right for us.

There is a web site called CL Booking which was started by a couple of site owners to try and boost the CL profile and to facilitate booking on line. When you glance at “availability this weekend” which is on the home page many sites are around the £20 level. More are metering electricity which I think is good, provided pitch prices are kept reasonable. I tend to find CS sites are lower priced and most have ehu as an option. Quite a few have hardstandings with ehu as an option, which is great. I think it is because they have generally traditionally taken tents. There seems to be a tendency among CLs to emulate club sites with posh hard standing pristine grass loos and showers, and ehu. I don’t know what it is but just as on CAMC sites there tends to be a move to serviced pitches and the closure of sites without toilet blocks there seems to be a trend to apparently want CLs with lots of facilities.

We like cs sites, don't need bells and whistles.

Hi Pete,H
We stayed at West Runton ccc in May.
Weather was good, got around by bus.
Had a day out to Sheringham, opposite direction to Cromer.
Might get back to Norfolk and will bear that site in mind.
Sorry pjay, my spell corrector plays havoc.

Its a bit misleading, although it says Kitswood Campsite its actually a CS, used to be called Corner House CS. 2 areas, one in the field as in the photo and the CS proper is in amongst some trees, we prefer the field. 😊

Hi all, I think cs will be going up, as a friend who owns a cs has had to pay £140 to be included in the big sites book never had to pay a fee before.

Me neither, nor whitewashed kerbstones, bossy notices and cautions on sinks to be careful of hot water.

This is us, Whitby, 1 mile from the Abbey. ..
£22 per night with 20 units of electricity.

Normally we pay between 15 and 25..

Location location location.

rare we would use sites, mainly Cls but as @carpman says the real bargains are temporary holiday sites.

Everything in the UK is expensive. CL's have been creeping up the past few years and it's hard to find one less than £20 these days. CAMC prices are now stupid. I've just utilised a 'freebie' night to keep the price sensible but the non-awning pitch+2 was £31 which in the middle of November isn't going to attract my patronage. I wonder how long the two major clubs can maintain their network given the changing demographic to itinerant motorhomes. To survive, I think a hybrid aire model alongside the main site might be needed.

The cost of cls has put us off up to now.
Mainly use cs then ccc club sites.
Have occasionally used pub stopovers.

Sadly our days returning to the UK with a MH are over, we find restrictions and costs far too expensive ...
Realistically we can afford to go, but as residents in Spain, we have been spoilt by the freedom and value for money that motorhoming in Europe can offer..
For example...the past two nights we are staying in a very nice village...quite rustic and surrounded in quiet countryside...great for biking and walking...or just relaxing..
It's secure with space for 16 vans, free water and hook-up....3 nights maximum stay...just 5 vans on last night..
The community encourage us to visit the various touristy locations or use the bars and restaurants...and why not indeed.😃🇪🇺

Hi Jumar.
Sounds brill.
Is that sort of stopover fairly common in Spain.
Trying to persuade better half to have 90 days away, most of it in Spain but she worries about her meds; levothyroxin for underactive thyroid.
We like the idea of more than 1 might in any one place.
Don't like motoring just to be moving around.

Good morning... I'm not advocating coming to Spain on the cheap...that's very counterproductive...what I'm saying is that there remains a logical way to sustain motorhoming at an affordable cost to the traveller...
There are areas that encourage visitors with open arms....but in some areas, mainly coastal, there is a feeling of resentment, due to overcrowding and at times anti-social behaviour..
Spain being so huge in size has less touristy places and therefore will encourage more visitors, many regions that the "Head for the Med" visitors just drive through offer so much charm and diversity...this sometimes comes at a cost, the weather can be less appealing..
P4N offer a good guide to where you might find reasonable or free overnighters...this region of Castile la Mancha or Galicia both have networks of low cost Camperparks..

CLs CS's are getting expensive, also too many facilities. - becoming smaller proper sites. I wish they wouldn't include electric in theses days of cheap solar/batteries.

I have started looking for CAMPRA sites. You can find them on Search for Sites.

Many of our tugger friends don’t have solar or battery storage, so need the EHU.

Making it optional, if offered at all, makes more sense.
