No problem. It’s been edited thanksI don’t think you meant to show that much detail, address!!
Same here, 9k miles on my Ford. Quoted 'about 1600' from Ford including the service, over £2k from a local independent. So my Ford 2.0 which has done 14000 miles and gone through 10 injectors has finally reached its 6th Birthday and so needs the dreaded Cam Belt replacement. Went to my local Ford dealer and was told it would be £1950. As it would need to be there for 2 days as the side cover needs bonding. After hearing that I think my brain needs Bonding. However it must be done . Great start to the year.
But not necessarily by a ford dealer! So my Ford 2.0 which has done 14000 miles and gone through 10 injectors has finally reached its 6th Birthday and so needs the dreaded Cam Belt replacement. Fiat don’t make pumps or belts, lights, sensors, brake components etc etc, no Car/Commercial manufacturer does. These components are all outsourced from the likes of Febi, Bosch, Continental and repackaged/rebadged. Take brake pads for example, many German cars use Mogg as an OEM part. Bosch and Hella make a myriad of lights, sensors and bolt on bits. Then take Fibi for example, thru make water pumps, but the bearings and seals are also outsourced from say SKF.A Fiat belt, pump and parts is over £386. And pattern parts can be a lot less. What are they fitting???
Maybe same quality but different box but do you have the same level of recourse if non-OEM parts fitted?Fiat don’t make pumps or belts, lights, sensors, brake components etc etc, no Car/Commercial manufacturer does. Yes you can buy cheap and cheerful but decent aftermarket service parts are OEM standard ans in many cases the same part made in the same factory.
I know I was in the trade for many many years, and still do some work in the trade.Fiat don’t make pumps or belts, lights, sensors, brake components etc etc, no Car/Commercial manufacturer does. INA timing belt kit with waterpump about £190 .Bit of work to replace the belt and waterpump as high pressure fuel pump needs to come out to replace waterpump but all in I paid £460 for parts and labour . Fiat Ducato 2.3 2021 2.3 L 140bhpMy Benimar mileo 202 built on a fiat Ducati 2.3 diesel is in for a new cam belt. I’m guessing the belt cost is about £400. The garage is suggesting it’s a whole days job. Does that sound right??? Pushing the price to over £1000???

That's similar to me INA belt kit and pump (with eBay discount via carparts in motion)INA timing belt kit with waterpump about £190 .Bit of work to replace the belt and waterpump as high pressure fuel pump needs to come out to replace waterpump but all in I paid £460 for parts and labour . Our complete parts kit (cambelt, pump, tensioners, o rings, etc) was c£450 for FIAT OEM parts so broadly in line with your quote however ours done by a mobile technician at our storage location in, let's say 3 hours, so you seem to be getting "overcharged" at well over £300/ hour!I am based in Oxford.
I have two quotes from Fiat Professional in front of me:
1) The first using Non-Fiat branded parts is:
£125 for the cambelt kit
£50 for the water pump
Labour £832.50
VAT £201.50
Total: £1209
2) The second using Fiat branded parts is:
£176.02 for the cambelt kit
£223.67 for the water pump
Labour £832.50
VAT £246.44
Total: £1478.63
The guarantees are the same for both.
I approached some independents locally (up to 50 miles away)
Two Fiat specialist van garages were not interested - one because my van was too high for his workshop (3m) the other because they don't do motorhomes. The third was much cheaper (sub £1000) but did not include the water pump and claimed that doing the water pump at the same time cost a lot more in labour. The warranty was not as good. So reluctantly I am going for 1) above.
You don't, and if in warranty I'd say use OEM. However I've used non-OEM on Mercedes, BMW and similar german marques from specialist motor engineers specialising in those marques, and the specialist garages all use the non-OEM but same (in effect) brand or sometimes better 3rd party parts if those are better when you service 10+ year old motors.Maybe same quality but different box but do you have the same level of recourse if non-OEM parts fitted?![]()
The aux belt kit will be adding a fair bit if as it implies Inc tensioner. But still crazy.Just had this for 2017 Peugeot Boxer from local Peugeot workshop: "quote for the timing belt inc water pump, aux belt kit inc pulleys plus labour is currently £1350." Am recovering slowly...
I've been around vehicle repair near 50 yrs and never had a problem with branded "non gen" parts..seldom used genuine usually only if non gen not available. You don't, and if in warranty I'd say use OEM. The OEM is not always the best part, especially with brakes.
I paid £800 last yearMy Benimar mileo 202 built on a fiat Ducati 2.3 diesel is in for a new cam belt. I’m guessing the belt cost is about £400. The garage is suggesting it’s a whole days job. Does that sound right??? Pushing the price to over £1000???
According to Nick Fisher from MMM the water pump on the Fiat 2.3 multijet engine doesn't need changing as it's designed to last the life of the engine, might be worth checking it out, could save you a lot of money but make sure that the tensioner AND bolt are replaced. My Benimar mileo 202 built on a fiat Ducati 2.3 diesel is in for a new cam belt. Do FIAT agree with that lifespan?According to Nick Fisher from MMM the water pump on the Fiat 2.3 multijet engine doesn't need changing as it's designed to last the life of the engine, might be worth checking it out, could save you a lot of money but make sure that the tensioner AND bolt are replaced.
