Corona Virus, Great Escape. Med. Spain to Green Spain

Oh & Totana is no one in or out either. residents only.

We have a very loose plan to maybe meet up with Salva and Maria (in the motorhomes) somewhere up here. It looks like that's probably something for another year now 😥

Blimey, how remiss of me. Last posted on Thursday and its now ..... Saturday.

We decided to stay last night at the same spot, ride the bikes and then pay for leccy to recharge them.

It all worked out well.

A 50km bike route, starting 1 km away, took us down to the coast at Loja. A nice place, but too busy for us, especially under the circumstances.

Everyone we met/passed was mask wearing. We weren't as cyclists, but I did feel a bit uncomfortable at times, especially when passing walkers whilst pushing my bike through deep sand on a narrow coastal path. (That's the problem with having to follow a route, you have to go where the route goes when you don't have local knowledge).

Anyway, we made it back without "obviously" upsetting anyone 👍

Today we've been in search of shade. It was a knee rest day anyway. We did a good stock up at Aldi at Laredo and then drove inland. We found a lovely parking area next to an Ermita where we stopped for morning coffee, but 11.30 was too early to sit there all day.

All our next options were too open and too hot, but we eventually got to a municipal motorhome parking at Artziniega, inland, south west of Bilbao. It's a nice old town with a Sanctuario. We actually parked originally under the shade of trees in parking for the sports centre, but have now moved into the parking proper.

We've had a stroll around the town and we have a bike ride planned from here for tomorrow.

We couldn't see inside the church , but the outside arch was pretty impressive.

J&M, After Artziniega we went to Santelices (Pedrosa). Good aire next to old railway station. The line is now a Via Verde, so good biking. We hiked the hills above the site, it was a good stop, although I don't know about weather at the moment - very little shade.

Thanks Keith.

Looks great. Nice town isn't it.

We had a free "music" 🤔🤔👿festival last night. 10 pm until 4 am, courtesy of two car loads of inconsiderate youths who set up a sound system, complete with flashing lights, on the grass next to the motorhome parking. None of the Spanish (all with families) bothered to say anything so we put in ear plugs and went to sleep.

Shade is necessary now. Especially tomorrow when, for one day only 🤞🤞 temperatures soar 10 degrees.

This morning, before it got hot, we got the bikes out and set off on another Wikiloc magical mystery tour! Martin downloads to his Garmin and it tells him turn by turn, where to go. He only see the next bit ... and I only see his back 😊.

Anyway, after a few kilometres on a "major" road we turned off and began a climb. I'd "upped the ante" and chosen a moderate, rather than an easy, route. The moderate was for the climb for traditional mountainbike riders. For us it was easy, except for the bit where we had to lift two heavy ebikes over a stile in a barbed wire fence. Easy "for them" not so for us. Swings and roundabouts 😊.

Looks like your having great fun

Now we're here. Another municipal owned motorhome parking just off the motorway between Vitoria and Pamplona.

We (stupidly, and we should have known better after all our years travelling in Spain) tried to get parked in a picnic area near the cave of La Leze at just before 2.00 pm on a Sunday, (in July) just to top it off. It was shady, that was our main reason.

Anyway, we got back on the motorway and travelled another 20km or so and got onto this, €5 a night, in high season, but no one is controlling it, municipal parking. We have shade, and a nice view, even though the motorway is in there, somewhere 👍and we're happy to pay if someone comes, but we're not happy to feed a €50 note into the machine 😨 and we don't have €5 except in €0.10 and €0.20 cent coins.

And right on top, with zoom, a building that we feel we may have driven up to in the deep, dark, past.

After hours yesterday afternoon into the evening, of cross referencing places to go with things to do and the weather forecast, we've decided to spend today right where we are. We have shade. We've had a short walk up into the hills behind us and down into the village for bread and croissants (croissants now eaten with morning coffee).

We've searched all the pockets in Martin's rucksack to find coins to feed the meter. No one is checking if people have paid, but we feel we should 👍 it's only €5 after all.

Our shady spot. Its shadier than it looks and we have the canopy out at the moment 😉

Packed Wellington boots as a just in case measure...not worn them as yet....@jumartoo thinks I look stupid riding the bike in them....however I have found them to be vital secure storage of valuables..see attached.

We're in Asturias at the moment. Do you know if there are still any areas in Galicia in lockdown. Thanks

When we were here a few weeks ago one area was, but it was lifted and, as far as we are aware, nowhere is locked down atm.

We're now back in Galicia, south east of Lugo, heading back up to the coast. If we hear anything, I'll post it.

We're on a free municipal motorhome area at Baralla. Full facilities, including water taps on each section (with hoses) and electricity.

How/why??? We don't know, but it's very good of the community.

Again Wikiloc came up trumps.

We had a lovely ride. Nothing difficult and nothing spectacular, but just all over lovely.

A mix of small roads, most of them with grass down the middle (lovely for bikes, a bit scary in the motorhome, though. And, we have driven some of them!!) and tracks. 35km of very pleasant riding with a new view around every corner, even the tractor cutting the verges right in front of us.

The forecast for here was silly, 30 degrees today and 36 tomorrow. We'd driven a long way to leave those figures behind. However the morning dawned with cloud cover and it took some time to clear.

We've now moved back further towards the coast, to the parking area we used before, with frog tap, and we're still under a blanket of cloud.

Lovely 😊😊😊.

We now don't know what to expect from tomorrow's forecast 🤔🤔.

Will they get it right, for once? Will we need to move to the coast?

One good thing, the bike batteries will be fully charged from the free leccy 😉

The "frog tap" parking stayed in the mist all day, so it was lovely.

This morning we woke to even thicker mist, but we could see that today, it would clear.

We hummed and ahhed about taking an early walk but I then found an interesting archaeological castle ruin some 10 km away. Too far to walk both ways, on a knee resting day, so we drove there after doing a full service of the van and some washing.
