Burstner Ixeo 680G
Hi,

Newbie here so please be gentle if what follows has been answered elsewhere! Been looking for a suitable sat-nav for a 2017 Burstner IXEO 680G which we’re just in the process of purchasing and came across the CoPilot GPS app. Does anyone have any experience of using this please and if so, what do you see as it’s pros and cons compared with other sat navs? I’m also considering the alternative of getting a map update for the sat nav installed in the m/h. I think it’s a Pioneer. Any idea where I might get this from? Thanks

Can I ask which GPS receiver you use with an iPad. Thanks
iPhones and iPads (not wifi only iPads) have very good GPS/Glonass systems. Combine them with an Apple CarPlay head unit or screen and they are absolutely brilliant. No need for a separate screen just for navigation.

Co-Pilot is one of the few apps that hasn’t got off it’s backside to provide support for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I gave up on Co-Pilot when it sent me down a motorway that had been closed for the whole weekend, with advance notice. Yes I did have their traffic option. I complained and got a complacent reply blaming a sub contractor but saying they would look into it. Two weeks later the closure was repeated so I checked the app again. It still didn’t re-route round the closure but instead showed my journey time as 36 hours, it seems I was expected to sit in a queue and wait until 6am Monday morning when the motorway would reopen. Pathetic.

Subsequently Co-Pilot removed their road profiling feature, the one feature that made it a useful app. I believe that they have now introduced a road preference feature which sounds quite good. However having destroyed my trust in their system I am not about to pay them for a system that doesn’t interface with other devices. They are clearly not keeping up with changing technology.

Small Garmin, don’t know the model no as I’ve had it for 4 or 5 years. Powered by usb. Only issue I’ve had is the Gamin needs to be powered up and locked onto GPS, takes 15 secs, before opening up the iPad for it to connect automatically by Bluetooth to the iPad. Other than that no problems.

Reason I went for it. For some reason when I connect my iPhone to the Fiat unit through Apple car play it works for a short time then I get drift where the icon of the van drifts away from the road till Google Maps or whatever other mapping app used can’t give directions as it believes you’re off road. Don’t know if when using Apple car play it uses the phone or van GPS but wherever there is some mismatch and doesn’t work. Not been able to resolve so gave up.

Other than that the speed alerts and mapping screen are better than Google, Waze etc (that’s my truth so no one can argue or say I’m wrong 😀)

I've mentioned it a few times on this site, Magic Earth is an excellent and free app. Vehicle dimensions, live GPS speed, current speed limit and full Android Auto compatibility amongst the features. There is no need to spend anything and with an old tablet in the Fiat dash holder it;s a great solution.

I tried co pilot. Nice layout but tried to direct me up a farm track. Repeatedly. Goggle maps didn’t. Emailed their support - no reply.
Sorry - I can’t recommend.

That's an easy one to fix, go into road preferences and set local streets to strongly avoid, it will then only send you down a track if there is no other option.

Thanks. - it was doing pretty well at highlighting local streets, but this was a big error. Maps for info.

The B road would have been much better. It’s a yachting village, and forestry trucks can also use it, so no reason not to.
Only reason I can think of that it got it wrong is that there was a road closure just beyond village, on A road just east of B road turnoff, but even if this was the only road, would have expected a warning. I’ll keep trying it (have paid for a year anyway), but on this occasion google would have been a lot better. We didn’t drive this road btw, this was from when we walked it…
