Hello All
I have started using copilot on my iPad it works really well apart from the speeds are wrong for my weight. I have tried 4.5 ton up to 7.5 ton and it makes no difference still saying 70mph on dual carriage way and 60mph on single road.
Has anyone that uses copilot have the same issues. I have contacted them on several occasions giving them all sorts of info but getting now where.🙄
Thanks

Copilot just gives the generic speed for the road as if you are a sub 3.5t (GVW) it doesn’t adjust for any input of vehicle size. You just have to adjust your speed according to the guidelines.

There are 3.5t vans that aren't allowed to do 70mph.

I have the truck version. Opposite problem - it does adjust speed limits but as if I was commercial so still not correct on some roads

Not for 4.5 ton
weight does not matter up to 7500kgs, you are a motorhome with speed limits the same as a car.

You are confusing Mass in Running Order (MIRO) with unladen weight .they are completely different.
Yes it's 3450
It might be the MIRO but it certainly isn't the unladen weight.

Unladen weight is calculated legally with the vast majority of the "unecessary" parts not included. The list includes engine oil, water for the engine, gearbox oil, bumpers, radio, sound deadening, carpets ,mats, ,spare wheel, tools & jack for the same, etc; etc.
In the case of PVc vans the unladen weight is what it left the factory at .Nothing to do with after it was converted. That is the MIRO & does not affect speed limits
In the case of A class it is what the engine/ chassis weighed
.In the case of C class it is what the chassis cab weighed.

The vast

Well, I use Copilot exclusively in the van, on the motorcycle I have a choice of Google maps, Waze, Sygic, and Magic Earth and I don't listen to those either :giggle:
Like you, I use Copilot in the MH. I also use it in the car, several hire cars, home and abroad. I works very well but doesn't seem to display speed limits based on weight. I don't see that as an issue as I wouldn't rely on a satnav to give me speed limit information.

Hi Robbie yes I agree it’s a good bit of kit. At the moment I are have talks with copilot and finally they agree there is a problem with weight issue and now they are looking into it. Hopefully there will be an update that fixes it.

Maybe, maybe not - for a MoHo in the U.K. it depends on the unladen weight being under or over the 3.05 tonne threshold as to which limit applies, not the GVW.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
copilot have been back in contact with me and have now acknowledged that there is a problem with the weights not being correct for my weight. So now the developer are looking at doing an update to correct it. 👍

I think that once the devs have looked into it, they'll realise the massive can of worms it'll create and leave it well alone. 🤓

Not necessarily, it depends on how they've written their code, they would need to add a field in the routing table for unladen weight and assuming that the speeds are also held in a table you would need a table A and a table B then depending on unladen weight you would load speeds from table A else from table B.

it would then need to be programmed with the specific laws on vehicle weights and speeds by country and be able to adjust and apply them as you cross border's.

Far from impossible but is it really needed.
We all make adjustments to the speed limits without the help of sat nav’s; for example in France on the motorway when it’s raining speed limits change.

It will be interesting to see what they can do if they do make changes, with regard to raIn or age speed limits in France, I'd expect them to display both and allow the driver to decide. It's been a long time since I wrote software for a living and no doubt the tools available to developers have improved significantly making it easier to get the required results hopefully.

The issue is that people don't know their unladen weight. Asking users to input it will cause confusion and annoyance.

Hi Guigsy it was when I told them my unladen weight when they realised it was wrong.

I agree , but I guess it’s either under 3050 or over 3051 to activate either set of speed limits but that as we know will only cover uk

Not in the UK they are not correct.
50 mph, 60mph, 70mph, Single lane road, Dual carriageway, Motorway

Not if the MoHo is not more than 3.05 tonnes ULW, in which case it is the same as a car at 60mph, 70mph, 70mph.
