Hello All
I have started using copilot on my iPad it works really well apart from the speeds are wrong for my weight. I have tried 4.5 ton up to 7.5 ton and it makes no difference still saying 70mph on dual carriage way and 60mph on single road.
Has anyone that uses copilot have the same issues. I have contacted them on several occasions giving them all sorts of info but getting now where.🙄
Thanks
Patio

I use copilot and I didn’t think it showed different speeds depending on the weight of your vehicle.
Happy to be shown otherwise.

Hi Phill
You can input your size and weight so you get the correct speed for your vehicle but it’s not doing it. The speed it shows is just the generic road speeds for all .

Doesn't it depend on your unladen weight? If it's over 3050kg empty, don't you have to use lower speeds?

Yes I input the vehicle weight and size

Hi phill so do you get the correct speed for your weight.
Although our van is over 3500kgs max it is under 3050kgs unladen so legally allowed to do cars speed limits in the uk.
I must admit I have not questioned the readout.

Can’t input unladen weight only maximum and axle weights

Suggesting that it can't acturately know when to adjust to lower speeds because it doesn't know your unladen weight.
So how do I know my unladen weight. My total weight is 4.5t and how do I input that on copilot

Does it not depend on what version of co pilot you have ie my version is for cars and, I assume, gives national speed limits for that category?

I think officially it's you Mass In Service on your V5c? I'm sure someone will correct me...

CoPilot doesn't have the ability to give the reduced speed limits based on vehicle weight; however you can add a 'speed limiter' e.g. 60mph if that's what you drive on motorway, and it will use that when calculating the time taken to get to a destination

Try Magic Earth, its free and you can download maps offline. You can specify truck sizes and weights but you do have to put in the maximum speed as it doesn't calculate based on the type of road.

Just downloaded Magic Earth, loaded my "truck" dimensions in, and set a destination which you cannot get to directly from my house. Unfortunately it took me the impossible way (def. had truck setting set). Co-Pilot correctly takes me the long way around.

Shame, it looked quite nice.

Might be worth supplying feedback to the developers as that is clearly not how it is intended.

I think you'll find flaws on pretty much all of them. You'll find other instances where copilot isn't so good.

The most annoying thing I found about copilot was it would tell me to turn off at a large junction. But the destination it told me to follow didn't match any of the towns on the signs. E.g. going north on the M6 where you have to keep left to stay off the M6 Toll? It says to turn off towards Lichfield... when Birmingham is the obvious headline destination. Google is very good at voicing out directions that match the road signs.

I never listen to the vocal instructions, I just follow the displayed route.

Yeah, that can be quite comical at times. However in terms of actual routing, it's not put me wrong yet. But now I've gone and said it out loud, watch out for the final news item of the day of a motorhomer trying to get a van down a cycle path ...

A really good satnav, wouldn't need you to look at it.
Well, I use Copilot exclusively in the van, on the motorcycle I have a choice of Google maps, Waze, Sygic, and Magic Earth and I don't listen to those either :giggle:

I used to use Google Maps on the motorbike. Most of the time I didn't need the screen. Which was good as at the time, my screen wasn't bright and got washed out by direct sun, the phone was in a waterproof case, and if I left the screen on, the phone would overheat.

Even in the van, I much prefer to keep my eyes on the road at junctions and rely on voice where possible. I glance at the screen in the boring bits before junctions.
