Considering an RV

If we could find an RV that was insulated enough to take to a ski resort in the winter and had storage lockers big enough to take a couple of cycles, without taking them to bits, we would be in the market for one.

I agree the room is amazing but why do none of them come with a decent garage - A comparable sized European would carry a full sized Motorcycle and have room for the bikes.

I brought my first, (personal import) a 1986 Pace arrow, from South Carolina in 1996/7. just before we retired. That was a learning curve (and a half). Changing all the sockets, putting in 220/110, transformer. Uprating the batteries, (No Solar, it was early days and they where astronomical price wise then, about a grand/100w). Ran that until 04. (including 2 years virtual full time whilst "self building") and sold it for nearly what I bought. That + more, went on a 31-1/2ft Pusher. (1994) Because the wife was having increasing difficulties with mobility and it gave us a Flat floor from front to rear, And a 2 Tonne "payload", (Into which a certain "funster" fitted an extremely Noisy alarm system!!). Increased the battery capacity 660Ah and added some solar 400W (now the prices where coming down) and swapped the US 110 Charger for a 40A 220V "Intelligent one". With this rig, as with the previous one, we had some winter time in Spain. I still have the "tote" tank (use it for the grey on the Rapido when I can`t get over a drop), even fabricated a device for towing it behind SWMBOs` Mobilty scooter!. Somewhere I think I still have the Macerator, which I screwed to a Board and connected to the Waste drop when needed, it pumps up to 100feet Ok. On one Spanish site I put the hose into the drain dumped a sandbag over it and had "full hookup" for over 6 weeks as a result. The Furnaces are quite intrusive, but are good for keeping toasty. I Never had Slides, so I could be less choosy about "wild camping". (French Cemetery Car Park once!). I sold In 2012, as by that time I already had the Winnebago (Adventurer), based in Texas, and we where spending 1/2 the year out in the USA, and I had let my UK HGV lapse anyway.

Looking at the more modern ones I see much "improvement". LED lighting, Quieter Generators, The newer Onan`s are only half as noisy, I understand?. Better insulation, less noisy "furnaces" too. And what would be more attractive (to me) are the (OK smaller) 25/6 footers on the Dodge/Merc; underpinnings, 3 Litre Diesels with "proper" auto boxes. (And drivable on C1 too!).

Miss mine, big time, The Winnie was a Dream V10 Ford. Every Extra in the Catalogue was in her, and she had been "babied" by one family from new. The paint on the chassis was still pristine!. But it was Too Wide to import back to the UK.. We had it over the "Great divide" at least twice and 12,000+feet up in Montana. As well as The Arizona Dessert, more than once. Camping not that far from Death Valley.

Loads do, but what the Yanks call a garage, and the broom cupboards European converters make are different things:)

Any Decent, "Toy Hauler" has room for two full size Harley Trike`s!. (minimum) (y)

Errrrrrr nope, that’s the lift that gets Management in & out and just a convenient place for the bin. She can’t do stairs. :gum:

We have just put a deposit on a Four Winds Windsport 32A from Signature. It Does look a bit daun
ting size wise but hey ho!
Very nice, was looking ont inter web at that, keep us posted how you get on with it.

i've had a few american vans and yes they did have a 70's pub interior feel about them but nowadays they are more european
they dont do cycling so garages are not for that , i've got a few mates with 5th wheelers who have the bike option so put harleys in the back but you need a good super duty to pull them
rv's are not always welcome on uk sites and you need to research where you are going to see if it works for you

You'll love it
Will be looking for extras like, Battery Master and Solar to be fitted to bring it up to scratch of ex Comanche which also had a big Oyster dish! This has a Maxview dome system and I don't know if any good in France, northern Spain etc.

Not in the market for buying yet, lots of research, and convincing the other half Yet, can’t see it in the classifieds where is it for sale ?
It’s on gumtree and eBay, search Minnie WinnieBags and you should find it

On the up side, I have (was) only turned away from a site once in some 14/15 years of R-V ownership. And had the Pace, down lanes in Devon towing a car on a trailer. The bigger (pusher) has been to parts of Norfolk, that are not that "User Friendly" Generally If the "Bin Men" or a Local bus service can get there (or has done) then you should be OK.

We where on site At Harlingen (Texas) One New Year, with 4 couples who had come down from the North (winter Texans). All 4 had Tri-Axle 5er` "Toy Haulers". Something of a standard kit for "snow-birds". With a variety of Bikes. Trike`s, and other "toys". Tow Trucks where a range of Fords Chevy`s and Dodge Ram Trucks, and as you say all Dually back ends. One had what is known as a "goose-neck" coupling, more often seen on comercial and Horse rigs than R-V`s. But it leaves the Load bed clear as the Coupling it located under the bed on the chassis. Just a hole with a blanking plate in the bed.

Or even better, and no donkey work dragging it to a dump point..... A macerator.
The best way to shove sh!t uphill.
Yep the best way, we have a set of various length pipes to join so could reach most dump 'huts' even when you couldn't get the vehicle close.

Like this one at signature, they really seem to be updating the spec the 2019 model has been updated again
