Some newbie questions relating to Gas bottels and connectors.

I've been struggling to find a 6KG Calor Gas bottle to buy for our new MH due to a shortage. We have one already but would like to have a spare onboard.

Homebase have Gas Light 5KG which will fit in our locker. https://www.homebase.co.uk/gaslight...OzVx9t5WKAxCOAzhUVgFuoS-VxkJLtxTdZSDU3t_GJoNE

However our regulator mounted in the locker is a screw on connector and this Gaslight bottle seem to be push on.

Would something like this be the solution? https://www.outdoorbits.com/gaslow-27mm-clip-on-bp-gaslite-to-218-lh-01-1673-p-948.html

Sorry didn’t answer about the adaptor - but you can get gas bottles ( empty) sometimes from gumtree/ eBay - there are some for sale on the classifieds here calor lite ones I think which are hard to come by but are swappable for refilled lite bottles. Would imo be easier than swapping the regulator ? Anyway I hope you get sorted. Might be worth while phoning some of the eBay gas suppliers and asking if they will sell you one without swapping?

When I was looking for a 6kg bottle for the workshop I found there were the larger 13kg bottles, empty. I bought one of them and swapped it for a 6kg bottle at our local calor shop at the normal exchange price, £22.
He said by the book it should have been like for like but he could loose it amongst other bottles.

Vxman, that's the correct regulator for the gas light bottles. Used to be called BP gas lite which I used in my caravanning days. Light bottles and easy push on changeover.

Hi
If you have a regulator already installed on the bulkhead, then I would not think the suggested push-on connector would work, as it is surely a combined connector/regulator, and two regulators in the same line surely would not function properly.
There again I could be wrong:cautious:

Agree with donkey dont think it will work, you need a straight connection to the bottle without a regulator. Unless you bypass your bulkhead regulator and connect straight to the low pressure side.

As said above This will not work and should not be attempted as you would be connecting low pressure to the high pressure side of your installed regulator.
All your appliances are set to run of a set standing pressure, and you would be messing about with that.
Also these regulators are not approved for Moho use.
Don’t mess with gas it will ( blow your heed aff ) 💥 🚐💥.

Try Flogas. Same connection as calor, once you buy an empty one off marketplace or fleabay.

I'm sorry but the above replies saying it won't work are wrong. The link provided is a clip on adapter, not a regulator so it'll be fine. You just need a pigtail with nuts on both ends to connect the adapter up to you regulator.
We used to run this system before we changed to refillables.

By the way, if you travel in France the adapter should also fit French Le Cube bottles.
We used this version of the clip on adapter: https://www.gasproducts.co.uk/gaslow-27mm-clip-on-adaptor-top-entry.html

Unless you are intending to fit a changeover valve (which would be a good idea anyway), you'll find it very inconvenient to have to change the pigtail over every time you change the gas bottle.

Thanks - this is what I have deduced from my extensive surfing of gas bit supplies. My only unsure bit now is the pigtail to connect from the clip to the regulator. Are these standard thread sizes? I'm looking at...

1. Clip and pigtail https://www.flogas.co.uk/product/27mm-adapter-x-w20-hp-propane-hose-kit?c=cylinder-accessories

Is that clip ok and will the other end be be the right size for my regulator?

2. Or this pigtail Broken Link Removed alongside a separately purchased clip like the one above?

Does it matter is a pigtail is described as Butane not Propane? My current one has both printed on the rubber hose.

Its not a regulator -just a connector.

Yep either of those would work - I almost mentioned that the pigtail was often called a butane pigtail

Sorry apologies though it was a clip on regulator got the wrong end of the stick
Please ignore my ramblings.☹️

I'd forgotten it wasn't a regulator, just a means of connecting to the gaslite bottle. Apologies. Age is my excuse!

Thanks for that. Went direct to Huddersfield Gas site and bought the 2 individual items. £25 delivered. Just out of interest - was the Amazon deal cheaper than that?

Amazon was £41! Have you fitted it? Do you actually need the pigtail or can you use the existing pigtail. Mine has the crash protection system so I don't really want to replace it.

It depends what current pigtail you have...if your current one has a propane POL end then you'll need to change it. If its has a nut on the end then you can probably re-use it.

Just looked on Amazon and it’s £21.99 free delivery if you have prime 🤔

Only just ordered so not tried it yet. As someone just said cannot connect to existing pigtail if it's a traditional Calor gas/Propane one. So with me it will be a case of having one pigtail for the Gaslight bottle adapter and one for the Calorgas bottle. Disconnect/reconnect at the motorhome mounted regulator. A bit of a pain but it's only something you'd need to do every now and again.

So that link was out of stock this morning and now is in stock at 21.99!!!! And I've Amazon Prime! That's cost me £3.01 for being impatient. Ironic thing is I think I gave them the heads up it was listed as out of stock because I emailed them about it!!!

How does that work? Is it part of the pigtail or the regulator? Or something else?

Would this get round the problem of changing pigtails?

Quite possibly..... IF that is the correct size for the Pol end of the current pigtail. I was looking a things like that this morning but could only find the male versions. I need to improve my search skills.

You try it and let me know. If it does it means I've waster 15 quid on the pigtail :(

Although - for me it only means I am changing at the bottle end instead of the regulator end. For you it may mean you keep your crash protection one.

Best crash protection ever turn your gas bottles off when travelling.

So that didn't work but I am fairly sure this one will! By the end of this I will have a lot of as new connectors.
