Driving home in the MH after a day in the Forest with a number of other vehicles and animals around so driving about 20mph on a narrow 2 way traffic road

A car coming towards me was over the crown of the road and going a bit fast so I pulled over as far to the nearside as possible and stopped to give the oncoming car as much room as possible.
As the car passed, there was a bang but the driver carried on. I quickly checked the side of the van and the mirror for damage - not a mark and so pulled out and carried on.

After driving for about 2 miles, I became aware of a car behind me flashing lights and sounding horn but not sure it was the same car or not

My wife is immuno suppressive and vulnerable to all infections and we don't mix with others unless emergency or essential and because of this and fearing some sort of road rage incident, I decided not to stop in the middle of nowhere as i didnt know who or how many people were in the car. I had been stationery at the time of the incident and so as far as I was concerned had not been involved in an accident

When I reached my junction, there was a car in front and so I stopped. The car that had been behind me was now stationery 30 yds back and in the ns mirror, I could see and hear a woman banging her fists on the side of the van, shouting word that would get her banned from this forum and as she reached the passenger door, she yanked it open shouting that I had taken her effin mirror off. I asked her to shut my van door and said my wife was vulnerable but she contiued shouting, swearing and telling me to get out. It was pretty scary!
At this point, my wife grabbed her interior handle and slammed the door shut enabling me to move off but I could see her literally jumping up and down in the road

I fully examined the van when I got home and not a mark anywhere so still mystified - maybe she straightened up and clipped my rear corner and took her own mirror off in view of her speed as I was stopped

I reported it to the police when I got in just in case she had my reg no. and decided to accuse me of leaving the scene or failing to give details

Not a pleasant end to the afternoon

Keep your dashcam footage just in case.

Not nice, sounds like you were in the wrong simply because you were on the road.
I am afraid some people can't ever accept something might be thier fault.
especially as I was in the motorhome, obviously a tourist even though only 20 miles from home and driving on a "locals only" carriageway

Ah - memo to self, switch it on even for short journeys.....
Wire your dashcam to automatically come on with the ignition as I have and you will not need to write memos to remember and you will have useful evidence in such events as yours if it happens again.

Mines integrated withe the Aguro sat nav and only runs off 12v.
Will look at standalone options. What make/model are other folk using?

Keep Right On. Like Paul's, ours kicks in as soon as the ignition is turned on. Fit and forget, providing it has loop recording facility. (y)

Sorry to hear about your road rage incident. :(

Jock.

I'm surprised that she could open the door do you not have central locking my car does the van doesn't as its older as soon as I pull off the doors lock thought it would have been the same on vans to protect the occupants and undesirables gaining access if we for get to lock the doors

It is selectable on Sevel vans and ours was off by default when we got our van, I switched ours on via the menu on the dash.

We had a similar thing happen to us a van coming from the opposite direction crossed the white line and hit our van what a bang but fortunately only light damage mainly to a hinge that stuck out,
All recorded on dash cam, sent all Video to the police absolutely useless 🙁

Mine automatically switches on as soon as I start the van. And has a 'parking mode' when the ignition is off.

Wow, hope your okay.

Keep Dashcam if you have it. Photos, times dates etc.

I have had a few of them, one very recently. Came banging on the window scaring the living daylights out of my 12 year old Grandaughter (she was in the passenger seat as our MH is LHD)
I had a similar experience with a cyclist. I was driving though Cirencester on one of the road where there are 'pinch points' and I saw the bike and pulled as far right as I was able to to give him space. I then went through the next pinch point ahead of him.

When I slowed down a bit further along he came alongside banging on the side of the van and yelling that I'd cut him up. Which was total rubbish as my passenger told him in no uncertain terms. But I was glad to move away from him as I found it an unnerving experience. Especially as I'd specifically watched him to make sure he had enough room and was safe.

Does sound like you overtook but couldn't actually go any faster than the cyclist.

We had a similar situation in Germany.

Going up a mountain pass (I'm RHD, so I'm closer to the edge than other vehicles) we clip mirrors with a lorry descending.

We are unable to stop due to narrow windy road packed with traffic
We stop at the first place, which is the top of the pass.

We have Milco mirror protectors
Our mirror glass is knocked out, but held on with a bit of attached wire.
Luckily we can simply pop the mirror back into it's housing and other than a scuff mark on the mirror protector we are OK.

However the car behind us apparently got hit by a mirror, arm and all, that came over the roof of our van and did quite a bit of damage to their wing.
They assumed it was our mirror and came storming out to blame us, but then realised what had happened, so calmed down.

The lorry never re-appeared.

Sounds like a right Pratt

I don't cycle on roads anymore (or should I say I avoid them where possible). People who do are very brave.

I hate inconsiderate cyclists more than vehicle drivers some days.

This work costs £4.1 Million and lots of cyclists from old, young to the Lycra brigade still use the road.

We experienced that too a few years ago while exiting a French village onto a sweeping right-hand bend. A delivery van came the opposite way and cut cross the central line on the bend. Despite us pulling as far right as we could there was still a loud bang as mirrors clashed. Ours was pushed back to the window but otherwise undamaged. A couple of miles later the same van caught up with us and cut hard in front, causing us to stop. A young guy leapt out, shouting, so I got out to confront him. He ranted and waved his arms but my French doesn't extend to rants so I just looked him firmly in the eye and shrugged shoulders. I did notice that there was very little left of his mirror, which was quite satisfying. Eventually he drove off with screeching tyres.

When we returned to Blighty we had a dashcam fitted which, like others mentioned here, turns on automatically with the ignition.

You mean, the way it often is when driving on town roads shared with other road users, where in places you're going faster, and then are slowed down again later on? And you overtake cyclists, and later on they overtake you? I'm watchful for cyclists and don't overtake them just for the sake of it. 🙄

I'm a keen road cyclist..an old git in lycra...whenever I approach one of these 'pinch points' I cycle in the middle of the road so that no-one can force me into the kerb or overtake too closely! I always move left afterwards leaving plenty of room for cars to overtake. Vast majority of motorists no probs, but you do get some prats shouting abuse through open windows, they get it back off me.
I very rarely use the cycle lanes, they're full of dog walkers with 20 ft leads, or dogs not on leads barking and chasing anything that moves! And, they're usually strewn with litter / debris / hawthorns etc.

I take on-board what you are saying for a lot of the cycle paths.

But the Alderely Edge Bypass doesn't have walkers/dogs and a clear view ahead. But still some people insist on being on a 50mph road.

There are 12v to 5volt converters on ebay , so you can quite easily wire the dashcam to come on as soon as ign is powered. Dont forget to fuse that supply.
Got sideswiped 6k damage, other insurer refused it until they saw the dashcam footage. Paid out straight away
Best wishes
