Just been told by comfort that I can no longer get my 3 month green card for Morocco for £20.00. My 3.5 ton motorhome is now £20.00 per week for a maximum of 6 weeks cover. So now looking at other companies who will give me green card for 3 months and good insurance cover without paying through my nose.Any advise welcomed.

Old news I am afraid..
Think they changed policy last September / October as a few on the 2018 Morocco crowd made some comments on it.. :(

When i spoke to comfort they advised green card would be for a max of three months. Might be worth double checking.
I would like to know why premium has gone up so much. Whats been the problem over there?

safeguard were ok or saga . have used both at different times .
mind things are always changing .
coop were good years ago.

Spoke to comfort as to why increase.
They said that this should have been the charge for a long while but they were unknowingly undercharging.

I’m probably wrong but can’t you get some sort insurance at border control for Morocco...?

I seem to remember something about it on a thread...?

You can but its probably provided by Mickey Mouse.

And it's around 300 Euro's if my memory serves me correctly? This is Phil&Mena by the way, as IveI just stolen Dave's phone in the one euro bar

Got to organise renewal in the next few days - I'm currently with Comfort and don't particularly want to change but some serious thinking and negotiating is going to have to happen.

We got in just in time, july last year and got 3 months for £20.
Not going next year but hope it's back to normal year after.
Comfort are the only company that do proper full time insurance so we have no choice.

My renewal with Safeguard for £85k value is £724 which Includes 365 days European cover, unlimited mileage and free green card, and breakdown cover which I don’t need AS I have RAC Arrival.

The quote off Comfort today is £402.56 (£462 With breakdown cover) for £85k value which includes 180 days European cover, 8000 annual Miles BUT £30 PER DAY, plus insurance tax for a green card should I go to Morocco! This would equate to £900 for a three month trip!

So do I stay with Safeguard in case I go to Morocco OR save £320 and go with Comfort, what do you reckon?

@Dazzlin I spoke to aib in Southampton. They also do a proper full timing policy underwritten by aviva. Might be worth getting a quote from them.

When I renewed with Comfort a few weeks ago I asked about the Green Card, specifically for Morocco. I was told it worked out at £30 per week but that was limited to a maximum of 50% of the annual premium. That was of course for our van, value £35k, unlimited mileage and breakdown cover.

I did ask about the rationale but was told it was Aviva's decision "after reviewing their claims history". However they were still looking at the Green Card situation as they had lost quite a bit of business because of it. Does anyone know why there should suddenly be a huge increase in claims from Morocco? I've a suspicion we're all being milked!

We never seem to get any consistency with quotes, as I've pointed out on a recent long insurance thread, so who knows what the situation is going to be when it comes to the crunch?

I emailed them about £30 per day and asked them to confirm this, it was per week.

@TerryL comfort messed up.
They were charging £10 for a green card. Should have been £10 a week.
I wanted to know what claims were increasing in morrocco, forewarned is firearmed and this is what comfort told me.

Hi Sue, I think you've just been fobbed off there as there are others that still do it for nowt. As a member on here wouldn't it be good if @AIBinsurance gave something back to the members by giving us a better explanation other than its aviva decision and basically like it or lump it :-(

@Busman why aib? Its comfort who are charging.

AIB as well Sue, wanted just over £250 for 3 months when I enquired in December, it's not AIB or comfort it's Aviva who I take it both are brokers for.
Can I just add I have had no trouble with AIB and found them ok.

My insurance renewal with Comfort is coming up, just checked with them and they want £33.60 per week + their admin fee to issue a Green card for Morocco for my 3850kg motorhome.
So for 13 weeks it's £436.80 + admin fee! More than my annual comprehensive insurance with them. Looks like I will have to change insurers.

When I asked about the green card on my renewal I was told £20 per week, subject to a maximum of 50% of annual premium.
I'd just like someone to tell me how many extra claims the insurance companies (Aviva?) are getting in respect of Morocco which justifies this enormous amount of extra premiums. It's now seriously beginning to affect our plans for a return in January/February.

We are planning our first trip to Morocco next year and had to stump up £250 for 90 days cover from Comfort. But at least I know its genuine comprehensive insurance and breakdown claim back cover, rather than buying at the border.

I asked them about the cost of cancelling my policy and going elsewhere and asked them to record that was my intention (suggest everyone makes that comment to them)

However their annual quote is still cheaper than going with, for example, Safeguard and getting a free Green Card.

Don't know about the claims from Morocco but then I don't know about the claims history from my postcode......perhaps once they had a lot of vehicle claims.................will it always stay high even if there are no claims for years.

Like Safeguard,Saga and NFU also proved to be more expensive than Comfort when we first got the motorhome and rang around for quotes. So I guess you get the quality of service you pay for.................can't believe they will continue to offer a free Green Card when they learn that Comfort are able to get an extra £250 from people like me.
Anyway I don't suppose it will be long before we will need Green Cards for France and Spain

sorry to go off topic, but it is related and rather than start a fresh thread..

also planning a trip..

Morocco isn't covered by the EHIC scheme.. where do you guys normal buy medical insurance?

Use this website to see what risk category your area is,

I know our postcode risk but my point was whether it will ever go down if there are no claims.................how often is it reviewed if at all.

I suspect they had a couple of big claims one year from Morocco, moved it into high risk and I guess that's where it will stay.

We've just taken out our medical insurance for France, Spain and Morocco with Staysure.Lasts for 8 months and covers some previous medical.

I think C and C do a policy but only available for 6 or 12 months

Safegaurd ..last time we went to morocco 2017 we got free green card ( as normal ) dated 1st Jan to end of May as i didn't know when we were going .
BUT .. they will not cover Turkey or Bosnia as we found out when going to Croatia this year BUT Comfort apparently do ..?
