Coffee pods recent convert

Coffee is similarly a hobby here but I couldn't leave my Rocket espresso machine at home. It went into storage with the rest of my life when I went full time last year but after about six weeks of trying different brewing methods I gave up and installed the Rocket in the truck.

The only concession I made was to leave my Mazzer Royal grinder (83mm burrs, 29" high and weighs 60 lbs) in storage as it just took up too much counter space. I bought a 1zpresso hand grinder and I actually prefer it.

I don't like the taste of Nespresso but just couldn't justify that amount of packaging waste in my life even if I did.

Absolutely love Rockets I have a Faustino grinder which is ‘good enough’ for me

Nespresso Vertuo in the van and at home , outstanding coffee , many variations , types , strengths and styles .
Pod are all aluminium construction and are 100 % recyclable . Every two weeks they are collected by Nespresso , taken away and recycled .
As always its down to personal taste and preferences .

Yes, but not when in the van in many cases.
We (I) just Knock the grounds onto a nice piece of soil....spread them out...very messy if trying to wash them down in a sink...😕

The guy who invented coffee pods says he regrets doing so, can’t demonise those who have them as it’s personal choice, but not one I would choose as it’s too much waste.

Personally a moka pot in the van is good no paper no plastic just coffee.
The pods are alloy and go in the recycling

Proper ceramic burr grinder (Hario) and either Areopress or pour over for us.

I do get fed up with hand grinding though. A decent portable electric grinder is so expensive though. Thinking of seeing if I can adapt my hand grinder to attach to a electric screwdriver.

We have used a Dolce Gusto for quite a few years.

I just buy the coffee pods in bulk and heat and froth the milk myself.

I take the coffee grains out of the pod and then put it in recycling.

For years we used to grind our own beans with an antique wall mounted hand operated grinder which we still have on the kitchen wall but no longer use. Plenty of fresh coffee pre- ground these days, we use Lavazza but the pode are less messy

Love this thread. So many people with a passion for good coffee😁
We use hand grinder (1ZPresso) quick and easy to grind, an aeropress or pour over with v60 filter from a gas hob swan neck kettle. It’s more and an art than a quick brew but that’s what being away in the MH is all about for us.

As I said I am not demonising anyone, however the aluminium has to be extracted and manufactures along with all the energy and waste that uses. Recycling is a good thing but how much better if it want need in the first place. Not guilt tripping as we all consume stuff but it’s just another industry making something that isn’t required.

We Use a dulce Gusto with reusable?refillable pods, works for us but only on hook up. Also have an aeropress for emergency coffee on the road.

I've got a Sage bean to cup at home and an Aeropress in the MH. The Aeropress makes a very good coffee.

Magimix citiz nespresso machine developed a leak last year. We plan to invest in another one before our next trip. Lidl strength 10 pods are OK.

Dolce Gusto at home for me and also a wee one in the van. Pods are returned for recycling. I buy in bulk from Amazon or when on offer in the supermarket and use the Podsback website to print my own labels for recycling.

Bean to cup at home. Don’t have an inverter in van so it’s filter or Nescafé Azera which is a bit better than brown water. I drink it black so it sort of tastes like coffee!

Did have a Nespressi machine at home but found it a bit disappointing and not very environment friendly.

Go TASSIMO! My Invertor can run this off grid as well! Great for those Traffic Jam breaks.

You could make a case that everything but water , rice and a bit of fruit is all we need to live and everything else isn’t required ! 🤣💡👍

Absolutely, but I think we can all make small adjustments that make big impacts without sacrificing what we enjoy, responsible consumption if there is such a thing....

Another vote for Mokka pot. On the stove top or outside on the portable gas stove.

Thanks, I never knew that you could get the refillable pods, a quick Amazon check and I have some on the way 👍👍👍👍☕

Thank you for commenting on Camp coffee my father in law (deceased 19 years since) loved it but I suspect laced with whiskey 😉

If I want a thimble of coffee, I suppose a "Clooney" would do. If I want a mug of coffee, I'll get the Nescafe out.
