Clipping a Border Collie... is there a reason why not?

These are our girls...….the tri-colour is Gabby who is 7 and the B&W is Georgie who is 11.

We have thinned out our terrier twice in the last few weeks, she seems to get some extra benefit in terms of not panting as much, The comb cutter takes most of the longer hair out and strips the underhair, which I think must be of some help. To be fair, I dont like her cut, she is much cuter when her fur/hair is longer, even if she does look like the blonde version of "Gnasher".

Our border terrier's top coat grows outward and has reached 10cm in length turning her into a round orange hairy ball, she gets incredibly hot and so our groomer clips her every 16 weeks (stripping would be every 28 weeks) but only down to the length of the undercoat and not into it; and then we comb her regularly to remove any loose hairs.

She had a sore weepy area on her back and the vet had to shave her to be able to treat it, she now has a paler patch on her back because the undercoat was taken down the skin and its never grown back properly.

Although Harry is half schnauzer his coat is soft soft poodle and so is trimmed short every 8 weeks to prevent it matting.

Thanks for your replies.

To be honest I wasn't really thinking of doing it (unless folk said it was a good idea). I just wondered why its not something folk tend to do... usually when this is the case I find that there's a reason for them not doing it!

Our Collie doesn't seem to moult. He has the same thick long coat no matter what the season. He does lie in the shade and if he's really hot I shower him. One year I did trim his trousers but he looked odd. :D
Because he /she will BITE you if you do

Our two are adept at keeping cool. The tricolour in particular has a very thick coat which seems to help to insulate from the heat. Dogs don't have sweat glands except on their feet so their methods of heat regulation are different from ours.
