Citroen Ami - Possible New Tow Car?

Too slow, and very limited range, expensive, ugly duckling, quite disappointing really, as it was pictured in the Stellantis EV Van roll out video that was posted on here last week, but they didnt for obvious reasons mention the speed & limited range.
The Chinese have a small car that will no doubt be released all over the UE & UK and its priced at 7K with longer range and higher speeds...unfortunately, they will clean up on the world EV market, as they are so far ahead of the game in what they already have on offer.
I feel we have had the opportunity to build & compete in terms of usability, but missed the boat as usual, waiting for foreign investment/ownership, such as Renault/China partnership coming to the UK soon, bolstered by the usual UK Gov financial incentives to encourage them to start production offering jobs to a few.

I saw one in the flesh at my doctors before we left the UK for the winter. Impression? Absolutely kin ugly and whoever designed it and passed it off for production must have been on drugs and the same goes for anyone buying one. 😳😳

Nice enough concept, don't care about the looks as no cars are nice looking anyway 😏. But why didn't they give it a maximum speed of 50mph?

28 is just silly and out on the national speed limit roads, which it will inevitably end up is just dangerous.

We were in France a few years ago, travelling along at 60mph or so and suddenly the car in front swerved round one of those poxy 30mph things, I had to quickly move over too. I wonder how many will get rear ended and smashed to pieces 🤔

I couldn't agree more. 50mph is the bare minimum for me.

Like something out of a cartoon
Don’t think electric cars can be towed
Check out Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman's "Long Way Up" they had some EV pickups as back up. Made by company called Rivian, in an emergency they can be charged by being towed which they had to do in one instance, they paid a local lorry driver to give the EV a tow which recharged it enough to make the next charging station, I think the range is about 400 miles.

Think of it not as a car perhaps but as a weatherproof comfortable e-bike ???

If my main day-to-day requirement was short urban trips for shopping and social purposes, I would buy an Ami. Especially if my health circumstances meant I could no longer walk into town and back and had qualified for a Blue Badge. I would also keep either a full size car or use my MH for longer journeys.

As long as it stays on 30 mph or 20 mph roads and there are no steep hills it would seem ideal for short journeys. The alternative EV Renault Twizzy appears to have a lack of weather protection so I would rule that out. Would I choose one of the older used Zoe EVs instead? Maybe but it would be more expensive to run partly because of its age.

It’s not built for us really I don’t think. Here in Spain there’s lots of tiny cars trundling around slowly. Richard gus-lopez will know the ins and out of them.
The kids can ride scoots of 50cc and they have different numberplates and these cars have the same type. The cars used to be 2 stroke horrible things but they’re much more modern looking now. That’s the market they’re aimed at I think.

Here you go. Is this the market perhaps or are they too heavy?

How old do you have to be to drive a microcar in Spain?

At age 15, it is possible to drive a motorcycle with the CBT test in Spain, this license is valid for driving mopeds, tricycles and light quadricycles (microcars weighing less than 350 kg). In all cases, the vehicle must have a maximum speed limited to 50 km / h.

We saw one on display somewhere on our travels this year but when we saw the top speed we couldn’t really understand who on earth would buy it. It’s not as though it’s cheap. Maybe, just maybe in central London if it meant you were exempt from all the charges and had mobility issues.

Well they probably were on drugs if you saw them at the doctors!!! ;):ROFLMAO: Whatever they were on when they designed that thing,I want some,it would make Bessie Braddock look attractive!

I've seen a few in Italian cities and really fancy one. Great for running around locally.
An interesting video from a guy who's has one for two years. And no that's not it broken down 🙂

Love it.
How's your spine coping?

How's your spine coping?
Absolutely fine !

You adapt your driving to cope with its unique suspension characteristics , i ran all my Lotus derivatives on track suspension settings so have a spine of steel!
The other plus is that it has KERS so deceleration and braking recharge the batteries , it really is a technically advanced piece of kit and is a real drivers car .

Can you tow it behind a motorhome - or is it a trailer job?

I’d say definitely trailer , it fits perfect on a two motorcycle trailer apparently.
