Chipping a Fiat Ducato engine

It is an addon box that plugs in to the wiring, so simple to remove, and I am sure the police would be more than accommodating to let you remove it just after you have been involved in a fatal accident and before the tow truck carts your vehicle away.:ROFLMAO:
And that assumes you are still in a fit state to remove it and the bonnet can still be opened.

I had mine done..
What I asked for and got was more midrange torque
Saves chasing gears on inclines
I already drove it with an imaginary red line of 2k rpm ( apart from the occasional burst to say 10 milles to give it a clear out once in a while, but the lump being just 2.3l and the van tipping 5 tonnes I was dropping down a cog or two at the slightest incline
After the remap no where near as many gear changes and I averaged just over 3mpg, going from 19 to 22MPG
That was about 7 years ago
Something odd happened a few weeks ago when we went to the meet at Hereford
MPG shot up to 25... Absolutely no idea why but I aint moaning !!

Why would you set an imaginary red line at 2k? The gears are there to be used. You ain't getting up steep hills at 50mph pulling 5 ton with a 2.3L unless you use those gears. Got to get that turbo spinning.

Ummm.... yesssssss
But I no longer have to do it with slight inclines, revving the nuts off the poor thing in third !

Why 2k ? Cos I aint rich and that is and always has been the most economic revs to travel at :-)

I had a Vw T4 with 188,000 miles on the clock remapped.
It was a 1999 van with a whopping 88bhp from the factory. Using a tried and tested path, I added an intercooler and changed the injectors then had it remapped on a rolling road. The result was a conservative 132bhp because I asked him to aim more for economy than out and out power. It drove beautifully up until 225.000 when a silly old lady crashed in to the back of it at 30mph while I was opening the drivers door. The MPG was massively better.
There is a 102bhp T4 model with intercooler and different injectors from factory, and there is also a much rarer (possibly only available in Germany) 150bhp model. So I'm not convinced by all the talk of "if it was meant to have that much power the manufacturer would have done it"
The 2.3 and 3.0 Fiat engines come in many different power outputs already, they are also for many different purposes, but basically van chassis that may deliver feather pillows or concrete.
It would be interesting to discover if the lowest power model has the same clutch as the highest power model for instance, not hard to find a reg number from a for sale add and stick it in GSF or Europarts websites for different models and see.
From my VW experiences I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, you don't drive motorhomes foot to the floor all the time, the extra power, and more importantly, torque are completely at your discretion with the accelerator pedal.
Ive had several of each t4 model you mention . I had all my 102bhp vans remapped to 150bhp ...and 2 of the 150bhp multivans i had remapped to 170bhp and 190bhp . No negative effects whatsoever but plenty more grunt and better mpg.

Same 2.5tdi lump in all of them . As you say only difference is on the lower 88bhp model not having intercooler etc as standard. But the 102 and the 150 models were the same from factory bar the ECU mapping

I also wonder how undetectable the removed device would be? It would not be difficult for the manufacturer to programme the ECU to log any changes to timing and inputs. Firstly it would be useful to them in the warranty period and thereafter defending any accusations that they had fiddled their settings to get their Euro5/6 status. Might also be helpful when looking at engine failures and developing new engine components. These days everyone seems hungry for data about everything we do and use so why would motor manufacturers be any different.
