Rally Chat Chester Food Festival Easter 2024

I'm booked too, but not up to marshalling.

I’m giving it a miss next year, it’s all samey samey and this year wasn’t as good as previous years, not even as much to look at on the fields, tbh I only go for a cheap Easter weekend to Chester but it’s lost it’s shine for me. I do Hope the fun keeps its place there tho as I’ll probably be back in 2025👍👍

Sorry I will not be doing it this year as you know we have sold our Hymer I did do the Thread last year but think it's time to pass it on.hopefully it carries on as such a good venue.

What price is it usually compared to £24 a head I can see now?
Do you know if people can still arrive a day early?

That price doesn’t include camping.

This is the link you need.

They are very strict about the entrance time - 2pm on the first day, Thursday.

There are usually massive queues at that time and maybe best to leave arrival until after 3pm.

I went to that in 2013, when i was young and we had to drive over 8x4 sheets of board to get to the parking area.

So maybe I need to have a chat with Mrs and start again for more fun , I'm 67 (y)

don’t fancy getting stuck and towed out
Ah is it that bad? Not going this year so haven’t paid any attention, have you had a report as to the condition of the field?

No, just still forecast to P-ss down, good for ducks but not looking good for soggy grass v 5.5t MH

I was planning on visiting for the first time this year but I fear little prospect of saturated ground recovering before then. Not interested in being towed on or off.

Our garden has been submerged regularly all Winter, I would imagine that the racecourse is absolutely sodden.

Alternative spots around Chester are

Little Roodee carpark, next door to the food festival (likely to be busy, open to public).
Delamere Forest CCC Club Site Hardstanding (Regular trains into Chester and Manchester, site fills up quickly book now, bikes ok on trains).
Phil and Jane at Heathfield Campsite in Guilden Sutton (Hardstanding, Bus Stop outside the Gates, they are CMC but be nice on the phone and they'll probably take you, quiet bike route into Chester).
Chester Lakes (if you have alternative transport into Chester (it's bikeable, but busy roads)

There is also one CCC and one CMC CS and CL on Lester's Lane near Broughton if you've got your own transport.

Edit: Sorry, should've mentioned, Broughton Retail Park for FLT's, no parking restrictions, Buses going everywhere, park behind the Harvester.

Personally I'd go with Delamere.

Hope this helps,
Cheers

So what has happened on previous wet years? Ground was fine 2022 and delayed show in 2021 was a lot later than Easter .... What does the event do for MH that have paid and booked?

Was wondering that myself, we have already paid, still showing as fully booked and 'no refunds' in the T&Cs they did hold over bookings for the following year when covid shut it down.

I think you will find it will go ahead, as the area that they use for vans is rarely used for anything else. Then they'll get a tractor in to tow people off at the end.

I'll pop down with Bannock, check out the ground and report back tomorrow.

Cheers

Top tip, park close to the rail if given a choice, the track is slightly higher than the infield area.

This relates mostly to the area we usually use, not so helpful if you are in general camping

Good luck, we are not going but have been most years, never needed a tow

Make sure you know where you towing eye is 🤔

It still might be a scorcher , temperature definitely going up this weekend 👍

Popped down earlier and had a walk around... The field is super wet, as can be seen in the Photos. The area that I have circled in red is the highest, and if not driest, most solid, I don't think you get a choice where you park, but if you can, head for this area.

Also, if I remember correctly, if you need water they send you sown the tarmac road marked in Blue, this may be a ruse that will enable you to get to the more solid ground.
