Just a year
I still have loads of research to do but really like the look of these two as they have drop down double beds that don't need a ladder. Are the two manufacturers on par or is one considered more luxurious than the other.
They are both around the same price, the Bailey won't be available to view until November.
We are looking for our first moho. 7m long seems about the right length for us. Which one would you choose and why?

Thanks for your help

Gerry

I wasn’t sure about all fords, given a recent post about a benimer based ford ' and my Ford weight plate.

iI will try and attach., and welcome any thoughts about it, as the VED doc says the vehicle is 3500 kg and I have no need to uprate.

View attachment 430856

Think it says my Fords max weight is 3550 kgs!

despite good . axle weights maximums.
Sigh. When you uprate it you get a new weight plate and the V5 is updated. Purely a paper exercise.

ah. I thought the Ford issued weight plate( not the convertors) showed the maximum weight the structure of the vehicle can be loaded to. Nothing to do with the weight linked to the V5

Any way The top line on ours is 3050 kgs.which seems an odd weight.

ah well bit more reseach .

thanks for the info.(y)

3050kg is the unladen weight which includes just the driver, gas bottle, half a tank of water etc.

not sure about that.

thought the MAM i.e maximum legal weight. Is the top line on the VIN weight plate

and the MIRO was the “unladen weight”

Anyway still pondering on why it’s such an odd weight.

After all the CoC and V5 gives the vehicle licenced weight as 3500. Why would Ford put 3050 unless it’s structual or some agreement with Chausson when they buy them in bulk...possibly all linked to the younger generation’s licences being limited to 3500 MAM.

The plating is purely done to allow people without a C1 licence to drive the. The 3050 is the unladen weight as I said above. Its a odd weight because that is what the vehicle weighs when it leaves the factory. The 3050 is the Chausson plate, not the Ford plate.

Sounds like the dealer we spoke to when looking at a Ford Autotrail, but later we got the reply" I don't know, I only sell them" Probably still go for the van but not from that dealer.

Time to see another dealer?

If they can't be helpful when they are trying to pry cash out of your hand, imaging how helpful they will be when you have bought and have a problem!

Not new then. As CB&B say, find another dealer. Marquis is nearby, try them they will always get one from another branch.
Yes, it will be new. Now that Premier have given up the franchise it will be Dolphin, they come well recommended. It was a case of anywhere will do to have a look.

I take you are looking at Chausson then. Try looking at Benimars as well. Same Ford chassis.

All owned by Trigano. Autotrail, Benimar, Chausson, Marquis, plus a few others.
Yes, we have looked at all of those, the Benimar and Chaussons seem to have the drop down bed as standard, the Autotrail has it as an accessory. It is a good idea but I need the headroom far more than the bed. And it must weigh a few kilos.

You must be tall then.

Plenty of headroom in the Benimar plus it’s not got a fixed table which makes for a large lounge area 👍

We are picking up a Pilote 696 Wednesday, same layout, we just missed out on a Chauson 640 but more than happy with what we ended up buying seems to be better quality, upgraded engine and a few extras.

When we bought our Bailey we had Chauson and Benimar on our list. Chauson are innovative designs but let down by cheap looking interiors, too much brown wobbly boarding. Benimar better built but restricted in terms of dealerships (exclusive to Marquis), you need to be willing to trust your dealership. Benimar also felt cramped due to huge tables. Bailey have bright interiors and we loved ours. But that’s just our opinion, our choice.

That's why we went for the 486 - no table in the middle.

There clearly has been advantages to only Marquis stocking them. Their buying power has meant some of the more annoying niggles have been addressed, such as the central waste outlet and the lack of a fresh water drain tap. I have been quite happy with the quality of sales, handover and support from Marquis.

We went to the Lincoln show in 2018 and spent quite a bit of time looking at Benimar with a Marquis dealer from East Anglia. They didn’t have the 486 there, otherwise it would be a very strong challenge. We liked the dealer there but would be reluctant to go with someone that far away as we live in West Yorkshire. Not sure about Marquis dealers reputation locally to us so that was a factor and the over large tables
