Normally they are from top to bottom (have inserted the weights you have quoted)
Max Vehicle Weight 3300kg
Gross Train Weight 5800kg (max permissible weight of van and trailer combined)
Max Front Axle 1750kg
Max Rear Axle 1900kg

Sometimes there may be another (Axle 3) for a tag axle van

...and just to confuse you even more.. the manufacturer of the motorhome may supplement that plate with one of their own which is normaly the weights you should abide by.

Also there will be 2 or 3 plates the last one fitted by the converter overrules the other ones.

Thank you for your replies to date . How do I know how much I can load on? Seemed very straightforward when we had a caravan as I recall there was a total loaded weight max and we just took away the stated caravan weight?

Meant to add it was converted by Autotrail it is a tracker EKS on a fiat ducato base. Where will the so called converter s plate be ?

@Pagen you should take the van to a weighbridge. I would suggest full fuel and everything you would take away with you.
They will weigh front axle, rear axle and total weight.
You will then know how much more you can load (or need to take off)

Converter plate is often close to the chassis plate

Mr Colpot and all thank you so much. There are some listed very close to where I live! You all seem far more adept at pc stuff and searching than I am ! Ta

A few points about the various weights....

You will find adding the front and rear axle weights adds up to more than the maximum vehicle weight.
Regardless of this, the van CAN'T be loaded to more than the maximum vehicle weight.. MGVW.

This is to allow for uneven loading so if the rear or front axle is at its maximum the other axle must be unloaded to keep the overall weight within the max vehicle weight.

Dont forget.... Maximum weight includes EVERYTHING including passengers and pets.

Very minor overloading gets you a slapped wrist.... Serious overloading is a hanging offense.

I am easily confused fellow funsters....I am not sure still how to work out how much I can put on my mo ho? Can’t find any conversion plate but would have thought I should be able to. I will get it weighed but then what is the calculation?

If you are going by this plate:

1900 kg is the max you can have on the rear axle
1750 kg is the max on the front axle
3300 kg is the maxiuum weight of the vehicle, you can not go other this even if the axles are not fully loaded.

You need to weight it fully loaded as you would when going away including a full tank of fuel and the amount of water you normally carry.

Think I just posted a dumbo post! The max veh weight is the 3300kg on that plate I quoted. So I guess it doesn’t weigh this ‘empty’ so the difference twixt empty and full is my payload which must not exceed 3300 in total? Would of thought the manufacturer would say what weight it can legitimately carry ie 250kg 400kg or whatever as I believe it did on our Bailey caravan. It stated sort of ex factory then max permissible and we just deducted one from other before weighing what we put on it?

It will in the sales brochure or price list but does not include factory & dealer fitted extras, also there is a +/- 5% tolerance on the MIRO so your van could easily be a 100 kg or more over weight which further reduces payload.

What I do is load up the Motorhome in what I call Holiday Trim - full tank of water (120litres) and full tank of fuel and clothes and food and take Mrs Colpot for a trip to the weighbridge. For example our current van was 3560kgs (1560kgs front 2000kgs rear) so the dealer uprated it to 3700kgs so I can bring wine back from France. I am guessing the figures you quoted were from a plate on your van so you would be looking to less than 1750 on the front and less than 1900 on the rear and less than 3300 overall. If you take your overall weight away from 3300 that will give you what you can load in the van extra (bearing in mind the individual axle weights mustn't be exceeded.
As to where the Autotrail plate is I wouldn't know but have seen them just onside the habitation door or on the cab door pillar on some Autotrails I have looked at (they are supposed to be clearly visible!)

Thank you all for your help. Have just found spec on Autotrail such as ours seems a payload of 470 kg which is 3300 max but ex works is 2870. Does that sound about right?

But what fixed accessories have been added since it left the factory.?..... Extra battery.... Solar panel.... Towbar. Etc
Even though these items will be bolted/screwed permenantly to the van they all count as payload.

The ONLY WAY is to visit a weigh bridge then deduct the bridge weight from the max vehicle weight... Presumably 3300kg.
The remainder is your payload.

Got it now. The point I did not make very well at all was I needed to know what the ex works weight was. I know I have for example to take into account the canopy at 24kg and the fuel and HWMBO etc as added baggage. Just needed in my head to have an added on weight for approximating what I could load on. Will of course double check at weighbridge in case I get my sums wrong. I cannot believe how helpful you all are on this site . Well worth the 15.00 GBP!

Don't trust the brochure/converter info
As said in earlier replies...…..go an weigh it with fuel water and both of you in it with all your gubbins
At least then you will KNOW and can make your decisions on that and not on heresay

PS- Did you ever actually weigh your caravan or did you just believe the lies in the brochure?
