Channel Tunnel

We went by train from France to UK and back a couple of weeks ago with an 8 x 4 trailer with high mesh sides and a full cover on, filled with allsorts of stuff. No one even asked what was in there, nevermind looked in it.

Fill your fridge, your food cupboards and garage/lockers with any foodstuffs you want, though make sure you have room for your reverse polarity tester and cable, plus your anti gassing device .....

Seriously, I understand why you are asking, but I haven't yet met anyone who has

1 had their motorhome searched for food on the way to Calais.
2 been unable to operate 240v appliances because of reversed polarity.
3 actually been able to prove they have been gassed and robbed.

But don't worry, someone will be along soon to add to your travel stress/worry.

Enjoy your trip, best wishes

Ok each to their own :giggle: but you really are missing a gem, never seen one iota of trouble and their Xmas market is second to none (y)
In fact there is a stall on the Saturday market that sells the nearest thing to bacon in France.

We are off soon and without a doubt Mrs CC will be loading the van to the gunnels with food, obviously as before we will be returning with most of it.
Don’t say to much as best not upset her😁😁

We have just returned from 5 nights away and I think she used half of what we took, and regards her clothes probably took enough to last a normal person 4-5 weeks.
Have a locker for shoes and I think she had about 6-7 different types in there😁😁
My better half doesn't own that many pairs.BUSBY.

Last time we flew in from Teneriffe the 20 people in front of me walked straight through then we were stopped and searched so could be the same at Dover.Years ago we were once searched going out.BUSBY.

I wouldnt bother taking anything apart from teabags, which are allowed anyway. However SWMBO will insist on taking bacon and a ton of other stuff, half of which will probably come back with us.
It is difficult to find adequate bacon in France but there are other things, and no problem in Spain. She will probably even take bread, which will be thrown away as the French stuff is much nicer.

If you are ever stopped, don't do anything to upset them. I believe they can do what they want and it's left to you to put everything back.

Many years ago I saw a motorhome being stripped apart by customs. I assume they must've found drugs or something to justify such destruction and investment in time, but it served as a warning to me!

I am always a bit weary when going through any customs as Mrs CC seems to attract border control and get patted down😂😂

Standing joke in our family me and the kids use walk on as she gets checked over, normally about every other trip😂😂

Some officers do see the funny side when I tell them to get the rubber gloves out😂😂

Looking for info from anybody that has traveled through the Tunnel to Calais in the Last couple of weeks or so
what checks if any were done on food in your van.
We are due to travel in a couple of days so just trying to scope out the lay of the land as regards to what we could take with us.
THANKS in advance for any help offered in this matter.
Late Starting AKA Cliff & Brenda.
We’ve been through a few times since Brexit and apart from the usual safety gas bottle off / steering wheel pad explosive battery check nothing else is checked .

Gas check only. I had 2 pints of milk, one butter, small pack of sliced cheese ,and a couple of rolls. Enough for our first snack/meal before wandering into the nearest large supermarket. No good Having an empty fridge on a Sunday in France….bugger all shops open and I refuse to starve. On the upside, they sell coconut Yop in France, never seen it here. ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:
edit..make that Sunday afternoons….some are open on Sunday mornings.

chaser, last time we were at Gravelines, that restaurant was a boarded up shell, surrounded by Herras fencing and there was a huge black horse grazing the grass inside the fence ! We really must try and get back there soon.
Cap Compass across the canal was nice for a meal mind ?

Boulongerie mostly open sometime on a Sunday.

Spot on mate, it's all been done up ,very high end now.
Cap compass , was always our favourite, it was run by a big black bloke name of Rudi, he cooked the steak on an open fire thing right in the restaurant, and he came round and talked to everyone all larger than life.
We went about four years ago and he wasn't there, just women doing the cooking.
On asking where Rudi was they all went quiuite, and said he had died in the restaurant about a month before and the lady was his wife trying to keep it going but I'm afraid it was never the same, and the other one opened so we have never been back.
But then again we haven't been anywhere for twy years.

Our jack Russell loved Gravelines, out the door and straight under the rolling waste bin , the rats scattered everywhere. The was 6 years years ago now God rest his soul.
It's far too risky not taking Branston pickle and HP sauce to france . , coffee is much cheaper there though and always bring plenty back. English tea should always be taken.

Agree about the Tea. Luckily, that's not banned and it's also lightweight.

none. Just asked if gas was off, same at both sides, and my return I had a van load of french spuds, apple juice, carrot juice and a few other bits from the roadside farm vending machines

Just the gas checks outbound on 19th April and return on 25th. Quiet in both directions but the French side did their best today to create a huge great queue through the passport check for UK-bound passengers.
