Changing wheel / Tool kit

I've found the spare wheel on my motorhome but the tool kit and jack seems to be missing. It's a Burstner Marano based on an older style 2006 Fiat Ducato. It seems it shoukd be located under the passenger seat but its not there. Has it been lost or perhaps removed because it wouldn't lift the vehicle? Its rated at 3500kg. I have a spare small jack I could probably leave under seat with a small tool kit but bit worried about the weight and whether I can get the force needed without a breaker bar for wheel nuts? Many thanks
 
I would change my wheel myself , but NEVER on a busy road / motorway.
on MW, call police and they would normally attained and sit behind with flashing blues until safely fixed by Recovery

That should be the duty of the HATOs in my opinion.

My other showstopper (apart from seized-on wheel) was on Christmas Day at 5 pm, when I burst a tyre by driving too fast down a potholed access road. I cursed, took off the wheel, only to find that the spare didn’t fit. Thanks, car dealer! The RAC arrived in 30 minutes, fitted an “allsorts” wheel (complicated device!) And followed me 10 miles back home. (To retrieve their wheel. I called a mobile tyre fitter.)
So, have the kit (including a torque wrench - alloy wheels - and maybe a strong cross brace) , have the know-how, test it all out and have breakdown insurance. Then you can act appropriately depending on circumstances.

I would be embarrassed to call out breakdown services to come and change a wheel for me.. yes before I get shot down I understand there may be a few cases where some folk may not be physically active enough to do it . But to not even try.. Mmm.
I dro e past a numpty on the m4 2 days ago on the hard shoulder crou hing down back to traffic looking at front ns wheel. He had not even pull all the way to the left
Oh and he was on the phone
No some people should not even try

I would not even consider it ATS can do ot safely and efficiently as possible. Other tyre services are available

Depends on the jack, my 2 ton trolly jack is fine lifting the car but I can't budge the Motorhome with it, part of the problem might be the short handle.
It was a French supermarket job. :giggle:
My Halfords 2t trolly jack didnt have the height to lift the wheel off the ground. Had to buy a 5t one.

I've managed to get the spare wheel off and know a trolley jack I have will lift it. The spare wheel carrier needs a 14mm socket which I don't normally carry. The spare tyre is dated 4605 which I belive is 46th week of 2005 so original spare wheel. Pretty corroded and slight damage to side wall where I think the vibrations have worn away a bit of the tyre. Either that or it was just tensioned up too much and the holder has been digging into tyre. Suspect I will need a new spare.

This thread has been throwing up a list of memories i wish i didn't have.
Buying second hand cars can throw up a number of issues, (all ready mentioned) locking wheel nuts get them removed before you buy, finding out 100 mile from home and tools aint fun, check the spare wheel actualy fits. I bought an A4 with correct size tyre (i checked that bit) but got wheel off couldn't fit spare, confused, wrong pcd.
Even had incorrect factory locking nut supplied, luckily the main dealer leant me thier service departments spare.
Yes i carry a shovel , no its a spade for digging out snow/ mud no strength in handle for leverage. As a result of a previous thread i checked out my ability to undo the wheel nuts and remove a wheel, was chuffed. Less chuffed days later when i spotted a missing wheel trim ( dont forget to take spare tie wraps). 3 years later stil not come across a Rapido one for sale, so have one fiat 3 rapido. That's enough fun for now.

Just a question. Would an unused spare tyre still deteriorate in the motorhome garage in the dark with no weight on it ?
Mine looks brand new with the whiskers still on it.

Not sure, but how "new " is a new tyre from a tyre wholesaler? Natural turnover would assume the old ones get sold first, but less popular sizes must hang around for years on wholesaler shelves 🤷‍♂️ How old is the tyre in question?

When I worked for a tyre manufacturer, all the windows in the production area were covered in an amber film (bit like old French headlights !) to prevent UV rays degrading the rubber, so while your tyre will benefit from the dark, the rubber will still degrade (dry out) over time, just a natural process that the right conditions will prolong, but not indefinitely.
Although there's no "weight" directly on the tyre to create a flat spot (for instance), but the tyre is still full of air, which will still impose a bit of "stress/strain" on the carcass over time ?
