Change oil light has come on.

Does one of those oed or obd things reset it ? I ve got one if them off ebay.

Or does it reset itself when you change the oil somehow
You need to know why it's coming on, dont just reset it. If there is an issue that I'd diluting the oil or blocking the dpd you will need the oil changing or you could wreck the engine. I would take it to the dealer who changed the oil and check they definitely reset after the oil change. If they are unsure I would ask them to change it again and make sure it is reset. Check the oil level has not risen before its changed and smell it doesnt stink of diesel to rule out oil dilution issues.

On Transits you can reset the oil change warning using the pedals.

If its due an oil change then still do it, the reset is just handy to stop the message annoying you in the meantime. Then reset it again after the oil change to keep things in sync

I was just wondering if i changed the oil and filter would it reset or would my odb thingy be needed.
If i could reset it i might shut it up for my journey home knowing the oil will be changed when i get home.

Getting back to you in 20 minutes. Finish coffee then giving that a go

As others have said also check the level, if its higher than max then its diluted and really needs changing soon. Its possible it the warning wasn't on at last service it wasn't reset at the time and is out of sync.

TBH for the cost of oil compared to the cost of a new turbo or engine its never a bad idea to change it if there is any doubt.

Checked oil last night and level is good.
Checked prevous posts and oil was changed last year so has only done maybe 8000 miles.
Still on coffee at mo

I very much doubt it is applicable to you but Iveco, who use the same engines as Fiat, state that oil changes could be required in as little as 4K miles according to type of use.

Generic service tools (aka OBD readers) that have a function variously described as a service reset or oil change reset usually only reset the service time indicator and not the oil segregation counter, which is why vans serviced by smaller independent garages often encounter the oil warning issue.

You would notice your oil level has risen if this is the case.

Not necessarily (depending on usage) - the dilution triggers the oil quality sensors somehow.

There have also been "recalls*" for new dipstick/sensor and PCM reprogramming to address more frequent than expected oil changes on the Ford 2.0 euro 6 engines.

I would still ask some questions of a Ford dealer to make sure that everything is up to date. They can also check the injectors.

*Maybe recall is not the right word, but work carried out to correct known problems that is done as a routine when booked into a main dealer.
