We're all set up to go Italy but meeting up with friends near Gibraltar after Easter. Question we have is we always go down the Mediterranean way but this time fancy northern Spain and inland. Any recommendations for two stops along this route, way thinking Salamanca or mountain/national parcs. Also along northern coast too for a few nights.

We are heading down that way just after Easter. Planning stops in Segovia, Toledo & Cordoba. Just be aware there is a bank holiday on the 1st May, which may mean a lot of locals take a long weekend, campsites could be busy.

Montanchez in Estramadura, south of Caceres is a good stopover, getting award from Camper Contact last year. Situated on edge of mountainside village, no difficult driving to get there.

Our first European foray last year and part of your route was on it.

We stopped just outside Salamanca at a huge open area with criss cross avenues (no buildings just lots of available parking, greenery and views). Just off of the motorway NW side of Salamanca and near a petrol station (Repsol el Marin, address; Avenue Fernando Pessoa, just off of the A-62) Have a look on Google Maps for details of terrain.

We also stayed at a site called Camping Caceres (extremely well rated) which had a nearby bus stop with regular bus into town (note the separate en-suite shower & toilet for every pitch)

And finally, Gelves Marina (which is also well rated) just short of Seville and a 20 minute bus ride away

The marina, how much?

The marina, how much?
I can’t remember but here’s a link on Park4night which says 20e off season (very secure site)

Big Tip: There are a couple of restaurants opposite and a bar. Friday and Saturday the bar is VERY noisy until late and reverberates across the marina. Not so bad if you can get one of the three pitches on the left of the toilet/shower block as the marina office blocks it slightly but still intrusive if you need any windows open.

Alternatively, directly outside the marina running parallel between the main road and the back of the marina buildings there is a shaded road with easy parking (we are 7.4m). Personally, that is where I would park if there at the weekend and wanting a quiet night.

Leon is well worth a visit we stayed here
Salamanca
Segovia
Sevilla

Gelves is a good site for Seville but can have flies and awkward to locate because you need to travel down side road before crossing main road.

Yeah, last year I had to make a u-turn because I missed it and then nearly missed it again and bumped over the kerb between the main road and the parallel road 🙄

Not sure that I can help as we arrived Santander Thursday 3rd April and have just got to San Esteban near Oviedo today ! Have taken a loop inland which is all just lovely.

Salamanca as others have said.

Segovia is fabulous, incredible viaduct, but maybe not quite a straight line. Avila is an impressive walked town but again perhaps not a straight line.

Definitely a straight line are Merida average town with the most amazing Roman ruins and Caceres.

Great tip with May 1st being a Thursday this would make Friday a bridging day, thats a long weekend of partying...🇪🇦🥴

Did Merida last year 👍

I can recommend Camping Monfragüe on the edge of the national park for a few nights & obtain a guided tour to see the birds in the park, arranged by the campsite. If you were time limited you could book the tour over the phone to ensure you got a place. The 0900 trip is best for the birds.

We hope to do that this September

That goes to the list, too (y)

That little route looks fantastic, can't wait to going back north🥲
I tend to write up our trips all in one go when home. But that does mean that we miss out on tips as we go. Currently very much enjoying the little town of San Esteban with plenty of parking along the quay and historic cranes from UK the same as those on our old quay in Bristol. Can recommend this place.
