Change of Motorhome so Need to Change Habitation Equipment !

We have been building up out Corelle plates & bowl collection over the last few years. We love them, lightweight, durable, many patterns but we go plain white, they stack nicely too. Expensive, some would say, but well worth it, as we dont like plastic glasses or plates.
Sorry if you have already looked at these, they are very popular, for good reason, they are great.
LES

We have had both melamine and Corelli. Corelle IMO is far superior, the only downside being it is dearer (which you soon forgive once using it)

I too colour coordinate much to hubbys amusement. We are in the process of moving (possibly, maybe, goodness knows what will come along next to stop us) and hubby is mentally preparing himself for hours on the Internet, looking at colour swatches and shopping!!

How much was your NEW Carthago?:giggle:
If we had changed the crockery etc every time we changed vans I wouldn't have been able to afford it! :giggle: We don't like 'proper' crockery when away as it can cool down food quite quickly and if it for some reason gets dropped/escapes from a cupboard, it can do a lot of damage not only to the dogs but also to the cabinets etc and should it break it would be a nightmare to clear up if it splintered. I do have some 1960/70s Pyrex mugs in a variety of colours which we love, the plastic outer is removable so they can be used as glasses too.

We have some 1960s slightly square quality melamine crockery which we've had for a long, long time, it is easier to store than normal round stuff as its not quite so wide which was important due to the depth of cupboards in some MHs/campers. It came as an 8 piece set but we just 4 large plates, 4 small plates and 2 bowls but supplement this with some oblong plates/platters with raised sides which are ideal to ensure that stuff with sauces stays on the plate and with the shape fit on the table better (no we didn't eat all of that pizza in one sitting!).

That was hubby's plate BEFORE I 'advised' him to take some off! :giggle:

Don't knock the mugs they stack easily, don't clink, are very strong and are dual purpose, so ideal for a MH, as for the lava lamp ... I haven't gone one but would love one! :giggle:

If you insist on traditional patterned styles then go for Corelle, they have a few that match your needs. (For example Old town blue or true blue)

If you could manage with just white then go for the ikea equivalent and save a few quid.

Must be a posh van to have a dish washer.:giggle:
I think Robert Clark has a washing machine in his ... I wouldn't put it past him to put a dishwasher in too ... :giggle:

Our moho has a dishwasher.... it’s me!!
Ditto ... but now we have a massive garage I could be 'tempted' to have a mechanical one! :giggle:

Just put Correlle into Amazon and there lots even in blue.................and I have just found out that the set that came with the van is Correlle as well once again educated .............🍵

One advantage of swapping to a van of the same manufacturer we could swap the pots across from old to new. Yes it’s old fashioned Bilton but it fits in the holders in the cupboard.
We have bought two big dishes for stews and pasta because the original dishes are a bit small, better for cereals.
Management now wants a matching cake stand for afternoon tea.

I'm amazed at the number of responses to my original post which I thought might interest a couple of folk but be mainly ignored by the masses. I'm so glad to find I'm not completely bonkers for wanting to 'waste' money on fripperies! Anyway, as a result of all the (mostly) helpful comments I've decided to go with plain white, mixture of Corelle and IKEA and have accents of blue in tablecloths, napkins and bits of kitchen equipment. Thanks to all. G.

By the way, Bigwood, tell Mrs Bigwood not to forget the d'oyleys !!

Chuck out the chintz  Even though the founder was a Nazi, I quite like IKEA

Thanks everyone for your replies - especially those who understand the essential need to change everything to match the new (to us) van! Probably comes from many years as a single mum, counting every penny, second hand furniture etc, bed from Sally Army cost £2 in 1965 !!!! Now I can afford to splash out and not having our usual three months in Antibes this year means there's more in the kitty for what some consider unnecessary. Partner's son has just bought an old VW so my old stuff will find a good home. I like the idea of Corelle, already have some IKEA bits in my kitchen. I just thought it might be heavier than melamine but will certainly have a rethink. Thanks again and enjoy the news at 9 o'clock - quarantine dropped from 6 July for France etc!
Corelle gets my vote as well. Was lucky enough to buy it in Walmart USA - $24.87 plus tax for the 16 piece set.. cheap as chips and in boring plain white. Yes, the plates do bounce!

We have a perennial family joke about cushion covers. In Pete & his first wife's caravan they had two matching dark brown Dralon velvet cushion covers, each with that 'diced foam' cushion pads inside them - total 1970's but you know what? though yes I have had to make new cases for the pads - those velvet outers are still going strong and launder an absolute treat. Lovely and comfy and never get squashed. I n 2009 when we were about to pick up our first motorhome, we asked his elder daughter if she'd like the caravan - they had 3 kids and went camping anyway, so yes and she said could she have the cushions and I said No! - we've deliberately chosen a Moho that matches the cushions so we want them!

When we saw it and decided to have it, before we went in to do the deal and were still on our own outside we'd said we'd try and beat them down etc and I said well - we'll save money not having to invest in new cushion covers won't we? and laughed. Similarly when Bill Hayes asked us to decide on upholstery for the Pilote we told him there was only one we could have, because we didn't think any of the others available would go with the cushions!

Another vote here for Corelle. I have it at home too, I have arthritic hands and wrists and I find 'normal' crockery heavy once loaded with food.

I too like to have to have everything matching/ coordinating. Changed MH just before lockdown and promised OH I wouldn't buy new things to match, but somehow in the last few weeks everything amazingly seems to have been updated 😉.

It's funny how motorhoming can mirror home living on a smaller scale. I have a shed at home. It doesn't have scatter cushions, pretty chintz curtains or bunting. My tools don't match or have a "theme". I don't have to have a "pop of colour". Same with my motorhome garage. It's all MINE! I don't get shouted at for laying on the bed pillow that is only there to look nice. I don't get moaned at for sitting on and flattening a cushion. I don't get the evils when I mutter about the artificial floral arrangement, or not using a colour-coordinated place mat. If you see me in the MH garage happily drinking tea out of a favourite mug that is chipped and doesn't match anything, then you know that I have escaped the careful organisation of Mrs Llewelyn-Bowen and sought refuge in my happy place.

Bloody house programmes have a lot to answer for!

I bought my 14 year old van as a private sale and the people I bought from were not renewing so I bought as seen with bits. This thread has made me think about what I have bought since last August

I had already bought a new quilt, pillows and a throw for the bedroom and some new bedlinen but it ended up in van instead. But did buy a mattress topper not an expensive one but easy to store.

I had the external silver screens bought as a Christmas present and I bought internal as well. The chairs you guessed the old garden chairs that I had bought for me as a house warming 12 years ago. This week I managed after many returns found a new folding chair that I am happy with in grey (it just happens to be the same colour as the van) and reduced to 1/2 price. A cover for the bike with the warning sign again on offer and have avoided the temptation to buy an ebike

The little white electric travel kettle, was dug out from the old days of travelling Europe with work and the blue mugs are out of the kitchen, (both kettle and mugs older than the van) But they both work , one boils water the others holds the boiled water in the form of tea.

However, I am hoping to have solar panels fitted, I will know on Monday if Vanbitz can fit my van in.

I was happy to spend on the mega service at the beginning of the month ready for the great escape.

As you can see there is a pattern try not to buy. Each time I get tempted I look at the price and think, how many miles will that pay for? Do I really need it?

Would I like everything to match, yes, would I like everything brand new, yes, when will it happen, when I either win the lottery or come up on Ernie in the mean time I will be having adventures without the matching cups But I do have matching cushions (they came with the van).

Happy times ahead :clap2::clap2::clap2:

Be honest, you bought it because it's got wheels! :ROFLMAO: Hopefully it won't skid around from under you when you try to sit down!

Looks very comfy though and won't make you 'sweat' when it's hot as some can. I use one of those cheap fold flat steps for my feet which does the job nicely.

Really have not worked out why the wheels as they do not do a lot, there was another one without wheels but by the time I went to order it it had sold out so wheels it is, but I think they will only sink and not win me any races :giggler: the arms are really good and comfy to rest the elbows on, I found the canvas arms were too wide, I am ever so grateful for the advice of having a 'good sit' as some were rejected in seconds but this one just felt right.

The fabric is very nice and it folds small so is now over the cab waiting for the 6th, starting to get excited as this should have been my first full season

I was amazed at how expensive the chairs can be and the more you pay does not always mean more comfort.

I'm pretty good at repurposing and making things cheaply. I made new curtains and cushions, cut down a large throw to fit 3 seats, recut the cheap carpets to fit, made a small bin for the bathroom from an Oxy powder tub. I did buy a new duvet cover, but it also matches the spare bedroom at home so can be used in there.
