We are looking at replacing our van and one of the option upgrades available is to have a ceramic toilet.

We have been lucky enough to have always had a ceramic toilet in all 3 of the motorhomes we’ve had so I’ve no idea of the drawbacks of having a plastic loo.

Any help & advice much appreciated.

How about this alternative library photo 🙂👍

😁 both this and the earlier taken from a thread of mine five years ago while replacing my macerator 👍

I guess it confirms ceramic loos clean better 👍

Does it really matter as it's only sh**e going down the hole or is Thetford taking the pi$$ at £111 !!!

I've had a Twusch in for 4 months and though it's a bit cleaner looking and to actually clean I don't know if it's worth it. Quieter to pee on too. The one I got was not a very good fit either which meant I had about a 10mm gap at the front (yes it was the right model for my loo). This meant I ahd to spend a lot of time smoothing the silicone and it started to set before I'd got it as smooth as I would have liked. That means there are little imperfections that collect muck in them. It does seem to clean off ok which was one thing people were wondering. There was £48 import duty into the UK. If you get the fitting kit it includesd a psray which is supposed to clean and seal with a slippery coating, but it's only a small bottle. I reckon it's a ceramic sealant spray so one for cars would work.

Just to save me from getting confused ;) are you asking about ceramic insert for plastic loos or are you debating whether to go for the porcelaine/ceramic that you have had previously ? I don't think we would rush back to plastic now we have had the full porcelaine/ceramicthat you are used to.

Blimey, you’ve all got too much time and money me finks. I use a bowl liner to 💩 into and it all disappears down the ole wivout skiddies, no matter if it’s plastic or ceramic and is dead easy to clean, is 17 years old and still looks like new 👍🏻

Spray the surfaces, whether it be plastic or ceramic, with teflon - those 💩 will leave the bomb bay doors like a missile

And the usual answer is NO so it would be better to ask "do I want it" and then if the answer is yes, crack on.

I’ve taken the plunge and opted for the ceramic toilet upgrade - don’t ask how much!

Just to clarify,

I wouldn't spend money on upgrading an existing plastic toilet with a ceramic liner.. no thanks.

but if it were an option to upgrade from a plastic to a ceramic toilet.. yes I would, we had a ceramic in the RV , with a black tank, it was just like a home loo

i know this is an old post, but has anyone been really disappointed with their ceramic inserts or is everyone still happy, some time later? anything i should be aware of before spending?

PS i am not looking for suggestions on how to polish the pan etc, i am looking for feedback from those who have fitted one, on whether the ceramic inset has made a difference or is it just a gimmick ?

though at £183 inc delivery of £41 etc i am more inclined to try to buy one as we travel through Germany in May this year. i wonder if i can get the VAT removed aswell .....??
