Most British tourists, heading down to the Med from Calais, pass straight through Burgundy.

Great wine, quiet rural area, beautiful villages. Laid back way of life. Reminds us of the Cotswolds in the 70’s.

Don’t go there. You might make it busy.

We can highly recommend Sarlat. Been to the massive market today but the old town is simply stunning on any day. Definitely make it a visit.

What's happening tomorrow and what time? Fancying a late breakfast or brunch tomorrow.
Not a lot I think! That link has a button at the top to turn it into English then scroll down and select the date you want. Some of the events are in nearby villages. The + sign brings up more details. :)

Le Harve.JPG

Never heard of Le Harve. ;) and I don't recall the English Chanel being particularly fragrant.

Just a top of the head idea - what about a few rivers?
We've done that, the Meuse, the Creuse, the Dordogne. We used a mix of aires and municipal sites.

Have a wander round the old town go over the bridge and go towards the right side. Its a shame its a sunday because they ve got quite a nice small foodie market in the middle.

Dont miss Pont valentre its the next but one bridge downstream from the aire

If you are looking for a really pretty next stop try St Circ lapopie also a free aire by the river.

Probably too early in the season for it but we did a canoe trip down the cere, it has weirs so they ve provided flumes for the canoes to go down - great fun.

Apologies to Robert Clark (the OP) for hijacking his post because we are off to Santander on Sunday and will be meandering north through Central / Western France for 6 weeks or so. We have made a note on the map of all the suggestions posted here and we are looking forward to some relaxing times centred around walking, cycling, local markets and cooking with fresh local produce. A perfect evening for us is sipping wine in a local bar under a plane tree with convivial company so please keep any suggestions for more rural towns and villages coming,

The Tincas

Aire at Razes, 200m from the lake. Parking in woodland, good cycling, pedlos for hire.
Just a few km off A20, Campercontact 13807
We were there a few weeks ago. Really busy when we arrived on the Sunday, and on Monday morning it was just a few campers, no mess or rubbish anywhere, except some cans where a few kids were drinking. Probably Brits. They were escorted off the park by the police. It's a good and very handy aires. I'd have thought it was just north west of Limoges. Either way, it's not too far from Oradour-sur-glanne, it's on the signpost when you turn off the A20.

Agree with you. Some lovely places. Can't remember if its actually in Burgundy but Cluny is a fabulous town with a overnight parking area in the town and a great campsite a couple of minutes walk from it.

Yes, you are correct. CLUNY is in Burgundy, about twelve miles from us.

Nice market on Saturday!
