Well done! it's good to have competition and a choice. I registered and bought a £100 squids worth to start me off.
It could be handy at times too that Caxton is Visa whilst Ukash is Mastercard.

Just been to the Caxton site and the exchange rates have vanished ...... any idea where they are?

It says to login to see today's rates but I still can't find them.

Gutted. Absolutely despondent. Think I'm gonna cry.
Said I'd wait till Caxton rate hit 1.3, but bought 200 euro this morning at 1.29.(n)
Could've saved myself about £3. :(
Thats 3 whole bloody pints in benidorm.
.....am suicidal now.;)

by a quick use of a spreadsheet I threw together I reckon you would need to convert about 10k in stirling to Euro before you saved enough money to buy a safe...

well done..will use that next time I leave all my valuables scattered around the van when going out!:giggle:

It will be interesting to see what effect the problems with the euro have on fuel prices in Europe. As I understand it oil is priced in US dollars and the dollar/euro rate has plunged to new depths and this may mean the fuel prices in Europe do not fall, percentage wise, as much as they may here.

Got this reply from Caxton

We are currently in the process of updating our website with new features. Unfortunately, this means we have had to temporarily remove the currency rate for our VISA cards, however, they will be making a return soon.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,
Sam Auzou

Is the business card rate the same as personal?

They mess about quite often with their pages and are often very sluggish.
Also downgrading to Visa was a cheap shot last year.
I like this new card UKash (y)

I just emailed caxton too to let them know where my money is going in future unless they buck up! and pointed them at Ukash

Sorry to inform you but this actually means nothing! This is not the same as the FSCS scheme (ie guaranteed compenstion if they go bust). The Financial Conduct Authority which is the webpage you're linked to is just a list of who's on the Financial Services Register, nothing to do with the FSCS scheme which I think is what you're 'mixing' it up with:

Beware that compensation arrangements are not the same for all firms and you may not be covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). For more on compensation see Broken Link Removed

Certain types of firms may be registered with us rather than authorised, including some payment services providers and e-money institutions. However, beware that registered firms do not have to provide us with as much detail about their business, we have less power to check on the firm and they are not covered by the FSCS. In fact NONE of the cash cards are covered by the FSCS scheme as they don't qualify for it and there is no other scheme for them. See section 16 on the below Ukash T&Cs:

    • 16.4. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme is not applicable to Ukash voucher codes. No other compensation schemes exist to cover losses claimed in connection with a Ukash voucher code.

Ukash vouchers have nothing to do with the prepaid travel card. That is a different service

13.0. The Card Issuer is responsible for safeguarding your unspent funds at all times even if the Card Issuer becomes insolvent”

I believe Caxton is the same hence advice never to put more than a grand on them

Sorry.. fscs as far as I know doesn't cover any prepay cards.. the question was if they were FSA regulated.

The only downside (if it is a downside - depends how you use it!) is that you have to go online to their website to load the card.

i quite like the app that caxton has, its very easy to do on the smartphone, and even if theres no wifi it can be done by text.(y)

I'm trying to remember but I'm pretty sure when I last topped it up from Spain I did it by phone using Ms Tigger's free European minutes..

You all know the old phrase which starts "if something is to good to be true..."

I'm not saying any of the companies mentioned here are going to go belly up. But it does happen. This company, which is local to me collapsed and some folk lost thousands. Broken Link Removed

They didn't operate cards but sent the money by post, or not as happened at the end.

Having a rival to Caxton is good as we can now split our travel money between mastercard & visa and it is unlikely both Caxton & Ukash would go tits up same month (y)

My worry is the companies are quoting exchange rates within a midges wotsit of the market rate at a time when rates are highly volatile. Worth punt of a few hundred but no more I think.

ukash is at 1:3187 just now so it proves that it does update every hour and NOT JUST business hours like Caxton

€1,30
Just ordered card but won't load it until it arrives
