I have never owned a motor home with a cassette toilet, i wondered how long they last before they need emptying, assuming 2 adults on board.
Happy with all the American Rv’s we’ve owned, they all have holding tanks and can last a week or more. What about you?

Goodness me - I am solely responsible for 'toileting' (get to sort out all sorts of sxxt me!), and 'storing' isn't an option as there is no spare cassette. I liked wearing the mask outside because it cut down the odour!

When there were 4 of us, there was a rule to use any available bathroom, but on the road it was 'Daaaaad - can you pull in as soon as possible?' plus the nightime and early morning trips to the loo. I encourage my lads to free pee (where appropriate and organically capable).

I would say max 2 days on a standard Thetford - tho I agree with the spray bottle approach instead of a pathetic, pressure dependent flush. I had a 'toilet duck' bottle that the kids went mad with (quickly abandoned) so I have my eye on a nearly empty degreasant bottle under the sink to use for a solution of the bio washing powder to spray in the loo that should help with the agreeability of the bathroom and contribute to the move away from formaldehyde type chemicals.

Has anyone tried vinegar/water loo sprayers and does that counteract the enzyme activity when you use washing capsules?

Must also point out that my experience in the MH has encouraged and given me practical ways to use less water when back in the house so maybe MH's can help save the planet... (if you never drive them!!)

Where do you store the full cassette?

Ours goes outside on the floor, under the van.

It’s quite convenient having a spare cassette that you can change at any point rather than when you have easy access to a dump point, also late at night…

I have used white vinegar, it cleans off the yellowing marks of age, but smells like a fish and chip shop,,,does a good job though,,,,good job I like fish and chips😂👍👍

I travel solo and it lasts me just under a week for the smaller cassette. The larger ones lasted me just over a week. I think there is about 2 Litre difference between the two cassette sizes from memory.

Never thought I’d contribute * to a toilet thread!

We use the site facilities for you-know-what. But, being of a certain age, we usually both need a tinkle several times during the night.

We empty the cassette every two days, sometimes more often. We try to use very lttle flushing water.

We‘re mainly using Elsan Green nowadays, but maybe we should consider laundry bio capsules in future. Presumably they're all suitable, but Aldi was specifically mentioned - are these the right ones?

Many thanks

* But I do read them all, since they tend to answer questions I’m too shy to ask!

Or if your a Skinflint into recycling, what's wrong with an old, large, Pickled Onion bottle? (Saves on Plastic)
Does the former onion content help deodorise?!! You want to watch the capacity of such jars and bottles. Many years ago in a tent with friends, I 'borrowed' an empty pint glass left in the corner having been taken from a pub when they put us out. Because it had begun to rain outside and the toilet block was far too far away, I made use of it as a container and I swear to God I peed a pint exactly - swiftly placed outside round the corner and disposed of appropriately in the (late) morning... 'where's he going with a pint of beer at this time of the day?' - it wasn't beer!

You can use any bio liquid/capsules. We usually use Lidl Formil bio liquid as we can get that in France as well as here.

On the Continent they do not label them as 'BIO' - just look for 'enzyme' or similar spelling in the contents - take your glasses. They nearly all are.

I had wondered about that - I don't know if its a terminology thing but you are right - there is a complete absence of the word 'bio' and no references to it on washing powder boxes.

Don't know if its cultural or what, but I recall trying to explain to a group of English language students how Daz used to promote the idea that their powder would create 'bluey whiteness' and they looked at me like I was mad....

Were we....?
