Cash

Pray tell more. In these mixed sex toilets, do you get a choice or do have to take what you get? 😉
In Sweden when I spent a lot of time there, I used to take whatever I could get (whenever I could get it 😆)
The Swedes were not very happy back in 2015ish when this first came about as they thought it was another way of the Government finding out how much cash people REALLY had.

The annoying bit is nobody warns you….you have a meal costing €50, ask for the bill and only then do they say “cash only” facing you with the task of finding a nearby ATM or leaving your spare wheel as collateral!
Some of us could leave a 'spare tyre' as collateral

In the UK offer cash in a pub or cafe and you get funny looks.
Ive never had that and always pay cash in pubs and cafes.
I did have that at a concert at The Albert Hall. It was card only.
I did have words with a manager, who basically said, if you don`t like it leave, as it was in the conditions when you booked.
I nearly did, but was glad I bit my lip as the concert was fantastic.

There is a limit on how much cash you can hand over in Spain.

I think it’s £1,000

Not that many of us will be spending that in one transaction
That is only when dealing with a business. Private anything goes
There's only one reason for cash only these days and that's to avoid tax liabilities.
don't
find many card readers at carboots or markets.

Same in Italy, lots of sites wanted cash. On one it was the only way to get our ACSI rate!
We did have to visit an ATM, used to usually take most of our cash back home.

It's a very competitive market. Our provider sent us a letter telling us our rates were going up - told them if they did, we'd leave them, and that we'd already found a cheaper deal. Not only no price rise, they matched the better deal to keep our business.

That's a VERY sweeping statement as I know a number of elderly people, some with poor eyesight, that do not, nor want to have, any Credit or Debit cards.
I also know a similar number of elderly who are happy with their C/C's and I-Phones.

As I said, a VERY sweeping statement!

Sweeping it might be but highly likely to be true. Both cash and cards should be readily accepted. Cash only is focussed tax evasion and nothing to do with accommodating those with poor eyesight or card phobic! I say both forms of payment should be made mandatory.

It keeps big brother at bay too. Whenever you use technology you leave a trail of where you are and what you are doing/buying.
Do you seriously think big brother is interested in my boring life!. I think the only people who needs to worry about big brother finding out what they're doing are people who have something illegal to hide

I was referring to the businesses, not the customers. The people you refer to would be disadvantaged by card only, not cash only.

Portuguese site we stayed on would only take Portuguese cards otherwise it was cash.

Gobsmacked really that people selling anything at all practically, doesn't have a Sumup machine.

We carry enough cash(all tax-paid) for the planned weeks away. We use cash except for 24/7 fuel stations which seem to be the majority now. This may also the reason why we are having trouble finding LPG in Provence and Ardeche - not selling without attendant.
