Had a look and couldn’t see an answer to this question, In the UK you are often asked at supermarkets check outs if you would like
some cash back, just wondering if it’s similar in Europe?
if it was it would alleviate a lot of trips to a cashpoint and circumnavigate ATM withdrawals limits by some card suppliers,

Lived in Spain for 12 years and have never found a supermarket which offers cash back. Here finance is quite different and getting money often costs money. To get free banking you have to commit to minimum amounts into the account each month, an insurance product per year, and minimum number of times using a DD each month. Otherwise you are paying anything from 8 to 20 euros per month banking fees,

Just returned from Portugal and notice most people in shops now using credit cards. Looking forward to next trip to France to see if cheques are dying out.
Nope. Still very popular here but some restrictions on small amounts. It is an offence to bounce a cheque (there are no cheque guarantee cards in France) but I guess a bit of low-level fraud exists everywhere. When I bought a new car a few years ago I passed over a cheque for the balance of about €25K and they asked if it was ok to present the cheque before I drove off.
