Caravan & Motorhome Club have lost it!

Also hard to take electric meter readings when some people want to set off early in the morning.
It can be done. Electricity can be pre-paid (a card is topped up). Those who miscalculate will either run out before they leave or if they leave before opening time will lose any over-spend.

A few years ago I did stay on a site where the electricity was paid via a prepayment card from the site office. I don't remember which site.

What I do remember is that I paid a lot more up front for electricity than I actually used. When faced with this decision it is natural to overestimate your KWh usage knowing that if it runs out in the night you are stuffed until the office opens again in the morning. I don't remember getting a refund either.

I prefer an inclusive pitch fee, even though compared with a lot of C&MC members we probably consume half as much electricity. I would be OK with paying a bit less for a 6 amp hookup, instead of paying the higher pitch fee to include a 16 amp hookup.

I started this thread because I feel that bringing the price down below £20 they would fill more pitches therefore more revenue during midweek, quiet periods.

On our visits to Germany and metred leccy, you bobbed to the office to tell them you want to leave. They would then take you lead out of the “locked” electric box. I guess you could leave without your cable, but sure as eggs is eggs, your cable would be worth much more than your leccy for a couple of days. Works a treat over there, can’t see why it wouldn’t work here, however the size of their sites may prove undoable and a factor why they do it differently in. UK. I assume using this method, you’d need to unplug for an early dart.
