Canterbury Dover Rd closed- where now.

To be fair not 100% certain but also most recent comment was as so;

No mention about no overnighting on the Dover Road website all it says no bus service so only 50p a day.
I think you would get away with is also there is a bit of space people stop in by the entrance when they arrive after the barriers close at 8 p.m.

Helen scousebird do you know anything?
We did pass the other day and you're right, there's no bus service atm. There was 1 MH parked there that we've seen a lot, I think it's a full timer so I suspect he's staying. The building is also boarded up and there were some portaloos  there.

Thanks, but that would mean leaving home at 02.00 in the morning.

I used to do that, or earlier, for a travel company, leaving London to pick-up in Norfolk /Leicestershire to get back to Heathrow for a 0700 check-in.

It is not too bad considering it is summer so first light is 0330 and soon after sun is up.

Have the MH all loaded, house locked, sleep in the MH, alarm set for 0130, quick coffee and off. Brekkie stop en route, shower at Dover, because you will get there quicker than you think.

Like others, it might become your method of choice. 0200 will be the start of your holiday. Enjoy.

No problem, I’ve just not been aware of issues and others have parked there seemingly without problems.

just to clarify, I mean the small car park just about opposite the road turning left to the Bleriot memorial.
What's wrong with that, lots of HGV and supermarket delivery drivers start at odd times.
Just seen your earlier posts but bad planning whatever the reason
Maybe bad planning, more probably urgency to get to our house in France before our house viewings are due and lack of availability on the Tunnel , Saturday and Sunday.

I've tried most of them and find The Flying Horse at Boughton Lees the best. Lovely pub with large car park and paddock around the back. They actively encourage motorhomes to park up around the back. Lovely village green opposite pub 15 minutes from tunnel. Give them a ring just in case they've changed hands .

The council site in Maison dieu is being used as a testing site and I think all parking near there is closed.

I expect the OP got the No Overnighting answer because government guidelines say you must return home each day but nothing to enforce it.

Once the overnight away from home rule is relaxed then it would again be worth checking with the council and hope that the Canterbury Park and Ride returns to being available to motorhome overnight parking.

I think it is because the facilities are locked as is the terminal. It’s just 50 p for parking a car.

Be aware, there wher reports that overnight parking had been banned.?.

I used to love night trunking. Watching the sun come up on a virtually deserted road. Best time of day for driving.

I have just telephoned Canterbury Council. They told me that the park and ride is closed overnight to motorhomes.
Any thoughts on where we could stay on Sunday prior to an 08.00 tunnel on Monday. Please don’t tell me to cross on Sunday as they were booked up when I checked.
Use the Tesco car park on the edge of Dover from the Canterbury road. If memory serves me it is signed as Superstore. Usually vi

OP as the above post another +1 for the Tesco Superstore....or..... next Junction down there is a Lidl and other industrial area you can park up....I do either of those for a few hours to get a nap in before the crossing.

Tesco erected a height barrier last summer as did the supermarket at the other end of that industrial estate. I was told that it was because lorries had been using it and had caused damage to some of the street furniture. The barrier is set at 2.9m so just too low for our 3m MH. If it was just artics they wanted to stop 4m would have been sufficient.

Nothing to do with overnighting, but where some supermarkets have height barriers it is sometimes possible to enter the 'Deliveries' entrance and gain access to the car park.

I live in Suffolk about 2 + hours from Dover, I don't trust that the M25 won't be blocked by accidents , I know it's a bit further round before you get of M25 to Southhampton , but, we nearly missed a Cruise it took us 6 -1/2 hours instead of about 3 hours due to M25 being closed due to accident. Have a safe holiday

Ok , We live in Dover so here is a bit of info,Please do not park in Tesco. if you park over night or more than 3 hrs you will get a ticket. I shop there daily so i have seen it for myself. The best place is over night on the sea front, Marine parade, from 6pm till 8am its free lots do it, or if you have time to spare try Walmer or Deal sea front no trouble there and nice walks, plus if parking Deal end you have a good amount of shops and Weatherspoons and one of the best fish and chip shops opp the pier. hope this might help.

2 hours free parking or only £9 for the day, Not a bad price .i've never looked at how much it was there before
OK you got me 🤕
Saw the above and as most of the pubs near by are closed on a Monday thought we would just spend the £9 and no rush or danger of hold up in the morning.

Its £9 for a car but £20 for motorhome. Couldn't be arsed to look elsewhere as it was getting dark so grudgingly handed over £20 😭😭😭😭

sorry I didn't see anything else

apart from the 9 pound? It didn't say car only?

We stayed at Canterbury end of July only 50 p to overnight. Is Dover in some sort of lockdown and thats why its closed ?
