Cancellation by the Hymer Group for all autumn trade fairs

Probably a sensible decision, I think it will kill the shows as they are the largest manufacturer in Europe and normally have the largest area at shows. At Caravan Salon the biggest show in Europe Hymer have one of the largest halls all to themselves and its often the busiest hall.

,l have personall purchased there spending £200+ on a MH so it is a significant amount of business that they normally take.
Wow, you walked into the show and just bought a van for over £200k without definitive forethought I salute your bravery. It took me over 18 months to come to a conclusion after visiting dealers and manufacturers direct and I still would not have done a deal at a show even if I had homed in on the model, too frenetic, for me that is, I like to bait the hook, salami the deal, change the hook, get in writing what I want in writing, then, just maybe then, I am ready to negotiate ;) Shows don't last that long. The most I have come away with from a show, apart from a lot of contacts and ideas, was a cheap 800watt kettle which is no longer available and still serves us today and at the last Stuttgart show a great set of awning tie downs that I have not seen the like of before or since.

I am aware of your process of buying as you share some of it with us and I have to say I do enjoy your deliberations, it’s obvious that we have similar likes but go about it in a different way and a differing take on certain matters and l like this as it makes for good conversation.
As to my purchase at Düsseldorf at the time l had a N+B Flair and loved it until l stepped into the Concorde 2015, l did a great deal at the show including a part ex agreement on the Flair that was honoured on delivery a year later,l am on my third since then so you can see l make pretty rapid purchase decisions.
I would just make one point, l do believe a the greater number on this Forum that actually post are first enthusiastic about our love of Motorhomes and second, these same people hold a good deal of knowledge that’s way above the average punter and therefore, our view on things is very different.

I was going to say that if I saw one at £200+ I would impulse buy it as well!!!

And we usually walk straight through it when the bus drops us off at their door ?

I made the point on another but similar subject; if you have been to a previous Caravan Salon event you will know how nearly impossible it would be to visit new motorhomes at the show with being very up close and intimate with others. For those that haven’t don’t try unless you are into that sort of thing. Looking at other ways of buying we were going to buy ‘off Plan’ as it were the new Hymer MC whatever 2 years ago, anyhow decided to pop over to see it In the flesh at Caravan Salon and so pleased we did as we Personally were underwhelmed when we went inside. Saved us making an expensive mistake - what I am suggesting here is you might want to think carefully if you were thinking of buying something before actually seeing it if the shows are not going to be accessible or safe.

Looks like the writing is on the wall Michael,

Today the editorial team received a press release from Concorde. After the Erwin Hymer Group and the Pössl Group, the Franconian manufacturer of luxury class vehicles is now also canceling its participation in the Caravan Salon 2020.

Part of the press release

Under no circumstances will Concorde Reisemobile GmbH take part in the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2020. The company felt compelled to make this statement after the trade fair announcement came from Düsseldorf that the Caravan Salon 2020 was taking place,

The people in charge of the trade fair at Concorde very quickly agreed that participating in the trade fair at the Caravan Salon as the industry's most popular meeting point entails additional, very complex and costly additional measures.
Compliance with strict Corona hygiene measures already showed the limits of what was possible. In order to avoid the formation of groups or the encounter of strolling people who would fall below the safety distance of 1.5 meters, a strict route is required at the exhibition stand. After the “inspection” of a motorhome by one or possibly two visitors, disinfection measures must be carried out immediately on all touched areas (flaps, drawers, doors, upholstery, etc.).

Keeping distance in the mobile and communication through face masks is extremely difficult for visitors and counseling staff in daily use.

I read that to the contrary Knaus Tabbert group will be attending. That is interesting as that is the parent of Morelo. Maybe Morelo will be given more space for free so they can socially distance, however cleaning surfaces etc would be almost impossible.

Do all these "exhibition orders" really magic from impetuous purchases by the exhibition visitors. An excellent opportunity to test without loss of face. I may be wrong but I am a glass half full kind of a guy, together perhaps we make a pint?

A bit like all the $30bn aircraft orders announced at Farnborough - the CEO and Boeing/Airbus went to lunch without their mainframe and engine chief engineers and did the deal? I don't think so.
