Reminds me of Tim West and Prunella Scales canal journey. I think they went to a chateau overlooking the canal where Riquet the engineer lived while they built it.

Great breakfast read! Takes me back ., glad you’ve found a find free zone. I remember cycling I yo the wind along the Canal du MIDI - closer to Toulouse than you are. Felt like cycling into a giant hairdryer on full power, hot.
