Can you ever depend on a Motorhome to be reliable?

Bought our Globetrotter (1991) in 2009..... She's had two tyres, a pair of wiper-blades, a battery, an alternator belt .... and an alternator regulator (€40) ... I would never consider buying a later or new MH. She came with a complete folder of service bills from new - apart from routine servicing she had just had the cambelt replaced … no 'teething troubles' or falling-off bits.

Have I been lucky?Had several motorhomes over the last 40 years and have never broken down, had a puncture or had a failure with any of the interior fittings except the fridge in our current vehicle. This sometimes is a pain to light. Our current motorhome is a Buccaneer Caravel which we have had 11 years. Its based on a Ford Transit as nearly all our motorhomes have been!!I read all the posts and thank god I can't afford a new one.I would be very upset if I bought one and had all the problems some appear to have.

Are you sure the new price was similar to a new m/h at the time? I had a quick look and a secondhand one in good nick from 1997 is £73k!!!!!
She paid around £56000. A good mid range motorhome like a Hymer or N&B would have been a similar price at the time.
£73k now means they are so well built and so sought after that they have gone up in price. My sister got around 15% more than what she paid for it, selling to a broker.
