Hi all. Can you carry spare fuel, in proper containers, on EuroTunnel, please? If so, is there a limit to what you can carry? Thank you :)

Solution2
2.5.12 Fuel: The maximum permissible quantity of liquid fuel (petrol, diesel or biofuel) that can be carried in portable reserve fuel containers on board a passenger Shuttle per Vehicle, is as follows:

-Plastic containers: 3 x 10 litres

-Metal containers: 1 x 20 litres

The total maximum amount is 30 litres.

A combination of containers may be used so long as each container size does not exceed the maximum allowed for that type and the total does not exceed 30 litres.

---------------------------

Pretty clear and not worth the work id say unless your planning a really off grid drive somewhere and 30l or 180miles max extra makes the world...

JuSt full as many containers as you can ,when you use those up fill some carrier bags full as well ,stuff the rest of the passengers on the tunnel train , just think of yourself.
There's no danger ,just don't smoke or turn your fridge to gas.
What a pathetic post.

Why are there so many lorry fires then ??
Nothing to do with the fuel, it’s normally brakes that cause trucks to go on fire.
If you throw a lit match into a puddle of diesel, it'll go out. That's because diesel is much less flammable than petrol. In a vehicle, it takes intense pressure or sustained flame to ignite diesel.

Hi.
Some one/Fire fighter will put me right after all these years. Two lorries collided just outside of Beverley Yorks late 60's and caught fire. One story was,the two fuel tanks had compressed at speed and set off the fire. If it did and if it had..There is one explanation,it does explode after compression." Suck, squeeze, bang blow "

It’s not law it’s policy. You can carry as much as you want in freight vehicles. I go with safety over policy. If it’s safe I’m good with it.
You quoted the maximum permitted quantity yourself so you're still happy to flout that "policy" and encourage others to do so.

After 30 years of breakdown and recovery it usually a wiring fault where the wiring has shorted after being close to the exhaust. Diesel is an contributor to a fire but will not burn on its own unless subjected to extreme temperature. Or tyre failure from overheating.

OK, I'll bite. I'm asking because I'm travelling from France to the UK for business and pleasure. I have a lot of miles to cover and don't want to be in a position where I can't get home again. So, do you want to tell me why you think my question is 'pathetic'?

Are you telling me to 'rock on'? Firstly, I'm a girl and, second, I don't appreciate being told my perfectly reasonable post is 'pathetic'.

Don’t worry too much about the fuel situation. It’s mostly down south. We’re pretty much normal here albeit more expensive this last week or so.
The rules re fuel containers is as above. If you’re staying down south an extra 150-180 miles should probably be enough. If you’re travelling further north you’ll be able to fill ok anyway. The situation is getting back to normal pretty much everywhere apart from the south east.
Have a good trip.

Thank you so much for your reassuring and helpful post. I really appreciate it. My biggest concern is not being able to get back home. We have to go as far north as South Yorks but have a lot of miles to cover to various areas, so it's good to know that fuel is available. Thank you again :)

I filled up in Bristol on Friday, no queue, no restrictions. I filled up again this morning in Cardiff, no one else in the petrol station. I think the panic is now over 👍

I hope I'm never in the tunnel the same time as you!

The same time as me? Why? Because I carry extra fuel?

EDIT: Oh no, wait, I get it now! I got a bit confused with the thread. Sorry :)

And I think you combined my reply with someone else’s. Jimbohorlicks is the one calling you pathetic.

oh and brother is just a term of endearment. Pretty sure we’re not related either 👍🏻

I may be wrong, but I thought it was the case that in France you are not allow to carry spare containers full of fuel in your vehicle at all.

If so, the OP would be breaking the law by carrying the fuel to the Tunnel while in France.

You can store 30lt at home or in a vehicle without informing the Petroleum Enforcement Agency (PEA).

I know its different at different locations however on Friday I arrived at a BP service station at 14:35 drove up to the entrance stopped by personnel and asked if I wanted Deisel or petrol, I needed Diesel, I was directed to stop behind another vehicle that had just refuelled, a moment or two later it drove off and there were two pumps to choose from ! I dove up added £90 of Diesel, queued to pay (this took longer than queueing for the pump returned to the vehicle and drove off at 14:45. I went past an Asda yesterday a short queue of about two cars per lane

According to the MSM the fuel shortage is just about over apart from daarn saarf as the lemmings are still panicking. The next crisis being reported is now the culling/shortage of pigs.
You heard is here first second folks. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Do you have a source for this information, please? I'd be very surprised if that were true but am happy to be corrected. It would mean most people break the law, especially in rural France. How else would people get fuel for their mowers and chainsaws? And why would they sell an abundance of fuel containers?

Won't swear to it, but I think it was something Yodelli mentioned in another thread a long while ago.
