Can I use an internal CCTV camera through double glazing.

They are quite customisable in the app as far as recording time is concerned.
I have a Deco wifi mesh system at home and never have a problem with coverage.
I have tried all options to set the Eufy to how i want them to record, they just dont provide the coverage and sensitivity i want. Will look at something hard wired with a recorder next year.

With the long delayed winter sun holiday getting close, I'm looking for a simple one camera temporary surveillance of the front of the house whilst away. We've got an alarm system and we live in a relatively low crime small village with good neighbours but the scumbags are never far away.
Thinking of buying an internal camera mounted in the window next to the front door and adjacent to my Sky hub.
Question is - will the camera work properly through double glazing?
If so, any recommendations for camera without subscription? I've already got a Kasa remote light control system to which I could add a camera.

I would recommend an external camera to get better coverage and images at night. Generally, the more you pay, the better the result and if you think that the footage might be used as evidence for the police etc. to use, I would recommend at least 1080 if not 4k imaging.

I have used a Tapo exterior camera which is OK providing the range it is set to cover it not too wide or long. I used to get a lot of false notifications suggesting human intrusion when it was a cat walking on the lawn or a twig blowing in in the wind. I also tried using a tapo interior camera close to a window, aimed outside; it was useless as the IR reflected on the glass and condensation triggered the motion sensor. I now only use them for internal coverage if our main alarm and camera systems are compromised.

Our main security system comprises of more expensive cameras with excellent night coverage and the ability to capture colours with low light levels. In our circumstances, it was worth spending more to get better systems; I've seen quite a lot of grainy monochrome video footage which was useless at identifying culprits.

P.s. And for the sake of a few £ per month, I would test out a subscription service before you go so you can work out what you want to be notified about etc. You may find one such as Tapo's service useful or unreliable, depending on what your camera is picking up normally during the day and night.

Thanks to all responding, very helpful. Looking at all aspects my finger finally tapped "buy now" on the Arlo wireless video doorbell. It will replace our non video door bell and has a good battery life. No need to drill for mains connection etc. The subscription is very reasonable and its a Which "Best Buy". Bit more than original idea but you get what you pay for.

Just get yourself a 'Ring stick up cam' simple to install, waterproof for outside use, battery or solar powered, battery is ok for a month at least before recharge needed, very clear day and night vision and very customisable including alerts straight to your phone. Here's the front for view.
Do you need an annual subscription with Ring products?

Having had a quick browse I cant see mention of a 'blink' (amazon) camera solution. Battery powered (seems to last ages) indoor or out. Backup to cloud for motion detected video for a fee of course or local storage to USB stick. If they get in then they will probably nick the cameras and recording equipment. (About the only thing of value anyway)
But they wont give outdoor view through window because the ir reflects off the glass at night.
As previously mentioned visual deterrent is hopefully enough. Very few nearby houses have cameras.

I mentioned it in one of the earlier posts. I'm very happy with my Blink external (and internal) set up.

Yes, different costs depending on number of devices. I have a 3 device one.
Without the subscription, you cannot go back and view the footage, you just get a notification and you can view live but often, by the time you have got your phone out of pocket and opened up app, the triggering incident has finished.
All the footage is stored online so no sd cards required and no huge data storage on your phone. Actually if it were to store directly on your phone there would be data download costs too. Having it stored by Ring is much easier.

Good point. I was going to add that with the OP travelling overseas, using data to respond instantly to notifications would become expensive and it will be disruptive when daytime events in the UK wake up the recipient in New Zealand. Having a subscription service allows the footage to be reviewed when it is convenient.

I also like the flexibility on the app. One touch home or away setting (I don’t want our internal one recording us when home), snoozing notifications (I do this when husband out gardening or washing the car), silencing notifications and so on.

What's the point of it though if you don't know about something happening at the time in order to stop/alert the Police etc?

Just had email/selling type from Amazon and they have someYeskamo ptz cameras for £32.99 wired and £61.99 with solar both are 3k cameras and have colour night vision SD card storage - free- or paid cloud storage. Instant telephone notification and speech. The wired one only needs a power cable so you can feed it through a window if a plug is nearby.
You can try for upto 30 days and return if you don’t like it 😉
3k is double the pixels than doorbell cameras so will be a lot better picture. For the money if we did not have cameras I would be very tempted 😁

Works fine for me I use a car phone sucker adapted to camera fitted to the glass pane 👍

I've got an IMOU Ranger 2 pan/tilt/zoom camera in the upstairs bedroom window. It works perfectly, the IR night light can be switched off and it tracks movement. It saves video and sound to it's sd card or you can pay a couple of quid a month for cloud storage.

TThis is only 1080HD but the new ones are 4Mp
😳

£29 including sd card, all you need is a USB power socket:

A great feature from the app is picture in picture so if you're waiting for the postman you don't have to stop using your phone 😁👇

Thanks - looks like a cheap option to try out the set up before we hit the long road south!
I have one of these.Ok in the daytime. But at night time you get the reflection fron the infra red lights. So no use in dark condition.

Richard n Ann how many motion detection alerts do u get from that view?
Hope you have your neighbors written permission to be recording there every move.

As many or as little as I want. You set the detection zone up in the area you're interested in. For example below, I'd just get notifications with movement round my new shed (the orange bit) . You can switch notifications and/or recording off say if you're working on the shed..

They're great cameras, can't think of any feature they haven't got, microphone, speaker, siren, human detection and everything works... For 29 quid 🤩

No permission needed but they could lower the camera so half the picture is not sky😉

It's a little PTZ dome camera so it won't move any lower than horizontal at the minute, if I fitted it upside down in the top of the window I could move it about much better.

Yup have a ring camera inside the MoHo looking out of a cupboard into the metal bodied MoHo.

Use your phone to see if you still pick up the Wi-Fi signal then get the camera.

Aaaarrrggh! The Arlo video doorbell is very nice bit of kit but can I get it to pair with my router as per the instructions? NO!! Tried everywhichway but my dual band Sky hub (2.4 & 5 Ghz) refuses to have anything to do with it. Interestingly, there's no information on the Arlo sales blurb that says its 2.4 Ghz only. Some of the Ring doorbells are dual frequency but not all.
So it's gone back to Amazon for a refund.
SWMBO says it was a boy's toy and we didn't really need it anyway.
Maybe I'll go for a cheap indoor camera pointing through the window as originally planned.
But the router frequency issue is one to be aware of.

Did you try turning the 5 ghz off on your router then pairing ? Once paired you can turn 5 ghz back on

Thanks but not simple on the dual band hub. Couldn't see any way of doing that.
Cash now back in my account. Time for a rethink.

With respect, a cheap camera through double glazing isn't going to provide worthwhile images imho

How well lit is the area that you are aiming to cover with the camera?

Not sure which hub you have.
With the Sky Q hub I’ve got, the default setup is that the 2.4Ghz and 5GHz share the same setup - especially the SSID.
You just need to rename one of them to separate the 2 networks. I did this by adding. “_5” to the 5GHz SSID setting.
FWIW, for my mix of connected devices,I found the pros of splitting the 2 networks less than the cons so undid that change later 🤣🤔
