Can I charge my starter battery via the cigarette lighter socket?

I'm not technical by any means. Therefore this is just for your info!

I had a VWT6 campervan prior to getting my motorhome. In the campervan the Sargent system did not charge up the campervan starter battery. I got caught out when my starter battery went flat. With the help and advice of a poster in the T6 forum, I purchased this and never had an issue again. Hopefully someone with the expertise will give you the relevant solution.

I use exactly this same system on a 911 turbo which is kept in the garage for weeks on end
Never let me down in 6 plus years and starts every time.

Cig lighters on a motorbike.....how novel!

Doesn't the wind put yer fag out though?
never be without one on my bikes now, brilliant for al the stuff, and the trickle charger. No more removing the seat to get at the battery.

a 20 to 30 mile run every two weeks but that isn't enough to ensure fully charged batteries.
So what would be enough to ensure a full charge ?

Err, that depends upon how low the battery was to start with.
I charge mine by connecting my 240v 'shed' charger to the cig socket with the m/h in my drive on EHU. It's an intelligent (self regulating) charger so I could leave it on 24/7.

The best I can help is to say to check the battery voltage an hour after charging it (either via EHU or after driving) and assess by the guide below. Do not check the battery voltage for at least an hour after it has been receiving a charge or you will get a false (too high) reading.

Find the amperage of the ciggy socket, find the draw of the charger, don’t exceed, 10 amps might be ok for a short duration, but it seems a lot for longer periods. We lost a transit van to a fire from a rechargeable 12v torch. You know it makes sense! Use the crocodile clips on the engine, surprisingly, that’s what they’re for!(y)

Can you not fir an Anderson connector somewhere in the footwell and plug into that??
