Can I call RAC for this?

So, I read the terms and conditions and it seems to me it would count as the vehicle cannot be driven legally on the road as a result of the failed item
Phone local garage and make appointment for repair. If stopped, a quick check would confirm appointment. It’s such a minor thing, for somebody travelling to get it fixed, I doubt there would be any police officer would even bother getting their note book out in such circumstances.

I am sure you are correct. How does that compare With the £600 Inhave paid the RAC in the last two years and had nothing?

It does seem like a trivial item it’s like judging whether to claim on the house insurance for something

Years ago a mate of mine got pulled over by plod for a rear light out.
My mate gave the lamp lens a thump and the light came back on again, to which my mate said, there you go.
The copper said, try giving your windscreen a thump, and my mate said why, and the copper said, it might sort your road tax out. :ROFLMAO:
Gosh that's an old one

Ceejayt
It's a back light not rocket science have a look on utub take photos and number them at each dismantle stage and you can follow in reverse when putting back together.
A bulb can go at anytime you need to be able to do it yourself.
If you remove a wire masking tape on the connector and on the socket number both so you can see where it goes back. Repeat with each wire using a different number/symbol.
Take your time a low stool or a chair can be helpful either to sit on or to put the lenses on I also put a towel/duster on the chair to stop it slipping off
Good luck 🤞

I called them when some idiot took the drivers door mirror off. They collected the mirror and fitted it. It's illegal to drive a van without a mirror

Being pedantic here.
It’s an offence to drive without two forms of rearward vision.

So if you had an interior mirror to see through back window alls good 👍

How much house insurance have you paid and not claimed or vehicle insurance,
Now the wrong side of 60 and only ever claimed once for a stolen car . I would hate to add up what I've paid out just in case over the years your buying piece of mind if something goes wrong .not to release you from the responsibility of maintaince.

I have done it myself previously when one went and I was in Spain. Absolutely as fiddly as hell and in the end has to get help as it took two pairs of hands to get the thing back together. It is a really big cluster with really difficult fittings.
If I was stuck I would attempt it. My whole point is why not get someone I am paying to do it?

Wish I had a quid for every car coming with a headlight out.

Ow much? (I see you're from Yorkshire :giggler: ).

Yeah, it's a shame you haven't broken down a few times with the family aboard at night on a rainy Welsh hillside.
It's what's called 'A grudge purchase', like fire extinguishers and yacht flares.

You've had peace of mind for two years but the solution is to cancel it.

My first brand new car Ford fiesta if you wanted a NS mirror (passengerside) it was an extra £300 the car only cost £2999 Needless to say no nearside mirror on the car , or a radio, and don't even think about electric windows they weren't an option

Cuh, you were lucky. On my Dad's A30 firm's van the heater and passenger seat were extras. In school hols I used to go with him on his rounds by sitting on a wooden box.

That's not what your paying for

If it stops the vehicle being driven legally then it definitely is what I am paying for that is what it says in the Ts and Cs
As you know the vehicle is defect before leaving you are liable and as you have publicised that you know its got a fault how are you going to resolve it when/if the rac say no
fix it yourself
Call an auto electrician
Or book it into a garage

When I had an issues with a Renault I replaced the bulb before leaving for work, 5 miles down road I was pulled over showed the officer the replacement bulbs that I always carry and he said OK ckank it now before you move I did I pulled off the garage forecourt and he bluelighted me again as it popped gave me a producer to confirm it had been repaired correctly with 7 days and been checked by an mot station

If the rac were to say no then I would call an auto electrician. Simple as that

It’s an interesting discussion How bad does it have to be before it IS OK to give them a call?

Eg. Headlights won’t work- it is still light but I know I will be driving in the dark later . Had a look at the fuses can’t see anything particularly wrong. Shall I call them or drive to the local garage while it is still light?

Same with Mini's even in the 60's.

Actually the tire issue is specifically mentioned as OK.
I'm talking about them just needing a bit of air, not being dangerous... What does it actually say?

Do you have homestart. I suppose if it went on route you could call them but it would not be a priority call how long do you want to sit and wait. I had a car not start on the drive and as both me and car were in safe location it took 7hours for them to show up .I had day off work unpaid but they got a number of people stuck on the hardshoulder death trap out of danger before he called to see me on his way home as he had kept seeing my call on his notifications going down the priority list.

I understand your friends at RS have a Service Centre now, if your journey is south couldn’t you ask them to change the bulb on the way past.

The limit of your electrical skills David.
Hi.
Giving the wonky bit that operates the Winkers a good bang to fix it,is a PROPER NO. Seems there are very fine wires etc. inside the cylinder. I was told.." IF.. it didn't work before............... IT WON'T NOW !! I have been where David is,seems technology has overtaken us both....................... Happy Days of Yore........ :ROFLMAO:
Tea Bag

So being specific they will come and change a tyre if you have a puncture. They won’t come and just pop some air in your tyre if you have let it go low.
I could change a tyre myself but unless I am in a hurry and I don’t want to jack io a 7 ton vehicle why wouldn’t I get them to do it?
