Hi All,

Following on from a previous post, my 12 month old Kontiki has 44% damp in the floor behind the drivers seat. The dealer has said they will repair this by removing the lino, drying and treating the floor and resealing the joints. Im obviously devastated at this as right now I have a 12 month old van with damp so my service history is bad for when I try to sell in future.

My question is can damp really be repaired, will they get these readings back down below 20% or am I now stuck with a damp van floor. Another thing with the new swifts, no readings were taken at all on the walls or roof. They say it cant get damp because of the construction, is this right?

I am at the point where I am going to get an independent damp report done in case this has to go further, as the repair has yet to be approved.

If it's only 12 months old I would want it repaired at the Swift Factory,my dealer done some repairs took it home ( 16 miles) that's how long the repairs lasted , then took it to the factory garage, stayed overnight repairs done to my satisfaction. Down side 176 miles each way ,but I think it was worth It, so after had holiday in area.

I wasnt given that option, how did you get the factory involved please.

I guess its not about drying it out, more so stopping any further water ingress.

water ingress can be difficult to diagnose as it will follow many a route…..

think Swift should be recalling and 100% sorting, but maybe thats wishful thinking….

Agree but nothing to gain with this as I’m not selling it. Readings were taken by the dealer and my meter backed them up. The good news is they appear to be improving now I’m drying the area out with heating the van and airing the area
Gentle heat will only help if you also have ventilation, without this you'll create condensation. Best of luck.

Just taking the vinyl up and drying it will do bugger all.
At the least the top ply layer of the floor needs removing to inspect the water damage and see if it needs further work.

Don't let them fob you off.
Hi Lenny

Personally I wouldn't want them cutting a piece of floor out, I am not sure why you wouldn't support just drying it out, assuming it does dry of course, the ply should be bonded to the styrofoam which is a closed cell so does not take in moisture so what is to gain/learn by looking underneath? I would be more concerned as to where the water was coming from and how they were proposing to stop it.

I phoned the dealer and sent them photos, told I wanted the Factory to fix faults , Auto -Sleeper have a factory Service/ facility, and the dealer was not opposed ,so I phoned their facility and booked it in.
I wouldn't have thought that your dealer wouldn't be opposed to you taking to the factory, as the dealers are always moaning about the warranty rate and has your dealer got the skills to fix it properly ?

I use Camper UK and WILL NOT go anywhere else. Yes it always cost more than I want it to but their service guys are top notch in my experience.

They were good with me. I also had a bike rack fitted there and am happy with that work (Although communication could do with improving) but I'm healthily sceptical of all commercial organisations. When one Burstner dealer says one thing and another says something different it causes me to question.
