Camping and caravan club prices!!!

I guess we might have to wait until next year to see the affect of the new cost of living increases to have any affect on the numbers booking full price sites with all the facilities in busy periods. Maybe they will reduce the number of nights they stay for from 7 to 4/5. At £40 plus a night, maybe that's already happening? I don't now as I am no longer a member of either of the big two clubs. Plus we now have to figure in the higher fuel costs to get somewhere, is it worth it?, can we not go somewhere nearer to home maybe? Especially for a shorter stay like a long weekend.

We used to like sites that offered deals like 4 nights for the price of 3 off peak, or even mid week, obviously that deal will not suit all, with kids at school or still working, but that's why the deals are/were there (to fill empty pitches). We never stay longer than 2/3 nights on any site, unless its with you lot on a Fun Rally(y), as we like to tour not stay static, plus we don't have an A Frame:giggle:

We, as many know, left the CMC because they didnt offer enough electric free pitches on their main sites, and we didnt need the expensive shower block facilities, play grounds, or dog walks either, but some (Tuggers & Campervans) will only book sites with all facilities to hand as that's what they need, coupled with high standards of cleanliness from The CMC/CCC, so they will have to pay the higher prices if that's their desire. Plus they in this current unmetered site arrangement make sure they get their monies worth, don't they just:giggle: They need frisking at the gate for 2KW hair dryers & 3KW awning fan heaters:giggle: Or put more "advisory" signs up, if there is any room left, see if that works first.
But seriously
Its also great that there are CL/CS available, which will suit many of us that are self sufficient with energy, however we will not be paying Club Membership to access them. We only need a place to park with Water/Black waste dump, hopefully a decent view, some peace & quiet, anything else like adults only offered is a bonus.

PS: some will argue with this....
We always got a better van insurance deal, and ferry deal by doing our own research at the time, but I know many Funsters will mention that they got 10% off this or that, but we didnt, always did better by amending either the companies, times, dates etc. Picking the phone up, speak directly, can be a game changer sometimes.

Happy Camping Folks, you pays your money, you takes your choice

We have had to pay £28 for one night on a pub site, inc of EHU, as it is the only place suitable for an early morning Tunnel crossing.

Prices will continue to spiral until we refuse to pay.
why not stay on the canterbury park n ride ?

Hi all, we dont use UK sites very much but have been members of the above club for 20 odd years. Living in Plymouth and about to go to Portsmouth for our Burstner damp check, I thought I would book the Chichester site for the night before to avoid an earlier start. 7.5 mtr van dont need hook up, but only hard standing with hook up for our van 2 adults with age concession £29 for one night surely this is taking the P its the week before half term October so not exactly high season or am I missing something.
Look for the Churchillian pub stop on search for sites, infront of and also just up from the pub is a hardstanding area where you can stay overnight for free, there will be some traffic noise until the pub shuts but after that it's fine, fantastic view of Portsmouth harbour to wake up too as well.

We are members of both clubs and do enjoy a 5 van site, it's just getting too wet on the ground for most sites in the winter although we do know some with hard standing.

We are still open for Funsters at Woodside Field. The ground remains firm, plenty of leaves to kick around and two good pups down the road.
£12.50 per night and not a white peg in sight.
Have you got dogs as well as chickens now 🐶🐶

Sorry could not resist

When we joined the Caravan Club long ago a good summer site was c £20 or less. Using the Bank of England inflation table, a CMC in summer should be c£37. My favourite CL was £12 and is now £16 but using the inflation figures should be c£18.30. Given that the CMC and CL has improved their offering, I wondered where is the rip off.

In my younger days, I could look forward to getting a decent pay packet with annual increases, promotions, and bonuses. Our spend was modest because there was less to buy. A five year old car and the hope of moving up the housing ladder sufficed for example. Now we have a mobile phone contract, three computers including an iPad. It's easy to buy a brand new car every three years on credit. Housing costs the earth. My income is almost static with just a modest increase each year in my pension - I'm lucky!

I was annoyed when the CMC raised their rates and continue to do so but by looking back and where I spend my money now, I realise its the global companies selling things probably I didn't need who are ripping me off. And yes nowadays it seems we can tour France for threepence halfpennny but its not for us. Once was enough.
