Camping and Caravan club , Moffat

Not getting personal, sorry if you feel like that. Only going by a post you said how you got to spain with out spending any money. So yes I would oppose my council tax providing free holidays for people with more money then me. Think that’s fair.
It would seem that is the attitude that is growing in France as well, hence the growth of organisations like Camping-Car Park (, which I've no objection to.) The only answer is to keep the running costs as low as possible, and charge enough to cover them. We used to brag to friends about how little we paid in accommodation costs in France, but even then I used to think that I was glad I wasn't a local tax payer.

Why would you be sorry? To run the type of Aires we use must cost next to nothing, useually just a bit of grass, or a chattered car park , water being the main cost, as the drains are already there and mostly look after themselves, but if only 10% of people who stop use the village cafes and stuff that is money coming in that wouldn't have been, so reducing the rates not raising them.

If you are simply looking for an overnight stop on the way north or south you could try this Castle Loch Country Park. It's only about five miles off route. We've used it a few times and reviews by others seem positive.
Kirk Loch Caravan Park also in Lochmaben is actually run by the Council. Reviews seem quite good. We always mean to try it, but it's only 7 miles from us. After years of trying, we have finally got our Council to recognise the value of Motorhome stop-over areas (aires to you and me). The car park opposite our house has been an unofficial aire for years and years - 2 motorhomes there just now.
