Campervan European breakdown on BBC

We’re a bit like you. We’ve got the Fiat Assist but not sure how much use it would be for a big thing. We changed vans mid Comfort policy so are currently double covered as well. We wanted it more for big bills on the van other than breakdowns.
hi ,,the fiat warranty was taken out when i bought it ,,extended to 5 years for around a grand ,,i think ,,they must know the size when they said breakdown is included ,nationwide is covered up to 8 mtrs so at 7.5 i should be ok ,,but who do i call first ,,who would be the fastest to respond , maybe the two would use the same garage ,,if in Europe,,?

No idea who would be quickest I’m afraid. I have a feeling in a lot of areas in Europe they subcontract work out to the same local recovery firms.

We broke down in Beziers in our car years ago..Steering lock ignition key seized...Towen car away and taxid us back to camp site...(car and caravan) After three days was told it may take another week..French girl who was managing breakdown between my uk insurer and French Garage told me to ring insurer and demand instant repatriation...I rang them and demanded to be repatriated...An hour later the French girl rang..informed me my car would be ready at 1600 hrs and a taxi would collect me at 1530..RESULT..BUSBY.

Red Pennant for us every time we cross the channel they might be expensive but they do provide a good level of cover .
We have had to use them twice over the years , first time the clutch failed on our tow car whilst we were on route to Portsmouth for the ferry to France
RP provided us with VW Tiguan for the duration of our holiday and we still made our ferry in time
Second time the handbrake failed on our motorhome in the Pyrenees again RP stepped up to mark and arranged for a Peugeot garage to recovers us and they kept two of the workshop staff back after closing time to get us back on the road .

The biggest concern that seems to come up time and time again is delays on spares ,, and Storage charges ,,, But a Clutch for a Ducato or a Transit is an off the shelf part in 3 days In any area of the EU . If not 24hours !!!!!1 So someone is clearly playing games if they cant source a clutch in several months !!!!! And this seems to happen mostly in France and Spain ????? I smell a rat ....
